Pennsylvania won't ban gay marriage thanks to GOP supporters

GAY MARRIAGE

Earlier this week, the Senate Judiciary Committee of the Pennsylvania Legislature shot down a bill that would ban gay marriage in that state.  The best news could be that three Republicans crossed the aisle to defeat the measure.

The committee, strongly run by Republicans, voted by 8-to-6 to table the gay marriage ban.  Chances are this will kill this piece of legislation.

This doesn't mean that Pennsylvania will allow gay marriages, but the idea will not be banned for future discussion making it easier for marriage equality to pass at a later date.

Dennis Kucinich flip-flops and joins Obama's health care team

After being a very outspoken critic of President Obama's universal health care proposal, Representative Dennis Kucinich says he has changed his mind and will vote in favor of the bill.

"After careful discussions with President Obama, Speaker Pelosi, my wife Elizabeth and close friends, I've decided to cast my vote in favor."

"I have taken this fight farther than many in Congress have been willing to take it," Kucinich said vowing to appease his constituents by supporting a single-payer health-care system that ends the power of insurance companies.  However, he admits, "In the past week, it's become clear that the vote on the final health bill will be very close."

Rielle Hunter hates these GQ pictures, who cares that she's an adulter

STUPID BITCHES CLUB

Rielle Hunter is a stupid bitch, and that's all there is to it.  First, she slept with John Edwards while his wife Elizabeth was dying for cancer and campaigning for his dumb ass.

Hunter, meanwhile, got pregnant by Edwards and had their little girl.  Now, Rielle is telling her story to GQ magazine and looks like a big ole' slut in the photo spread.

On Monday, Hunter was doing damage control by calling everyone from Barbara Walters to the New York Daily News saying she was upset by the photos and "cried for hours" after seeing them.

Walters told Rielle's story on "The View" as if they were best friends saying Hunter "went with the flow" of the photo shoot.  She evidently told Babs that she trusted the photographer.  Clearly, a bad move!

GaySocialites.com endorses Jose Peralta for NY State Senate

POLITICAL ENDORSEMENT

GaySocialites.com is proud to endorse Assemblyman Jose Peralta in his campaign to replace Hiram Monseratte in the State Senate.

Monseratte was expelled by his fellow Senators after he was convicted of beating his girlfriend.  A special election is set for Tuesday, and Monseratte managed to get himself on the ballot.

As dirty as they come in politics, Hiram Monseratte was one of the State Senators who switched parties last year putting on a show in Albany.  As a result of Monseratte's actions, the Senate went on hold pushing many issues past deadline including a vote on marriage equality in New York.

The issue may have passed at the time, but after the political shuffle that Monseratte caused; it failed earlier this year.

That's why we encourage you to vote for Jose Peralta if you're registered in Corona, East Elmhurst, Elmhurst and Jackson Heights (New York).  The election will be held on Tuesday, and I'll be out there campaign both Monday and Tuesday of next week.

Virginia's republican governor steps in to protect the gays

The Virginia governor Bob McDonnell has directed state agencies not to discriminate against gay people in employment practices Wednesday despite the fact that the state's attorney general calls such protections unconstitutional.

Last week, General Ken Cuccinelli wrote a letter to administrators at state colleges and universities advising them to remove any protection status in their nondiscrimination policies toward gays.

Cuccinelli caused an uproar across the state on several campuses resulting in the protest at the Capitol on Wednesday.

Now, the Republican governor has stepped in and changed that.  There is still a long way to go in Viriginia.  The Virginia Human Rights Act still does not include gays despite several attempts for inclusion repeatedly defeated by the Legislature.

Why won't Rep. Eric Massa talk about his sexual orientation?

massa_gay.jpg

Former Representative Eric Massa is making the media rounds claiming he was run out of congress by the Obama administration since the Democrat wouldn't back the president's health care plan.  As it turns out, now Massa is being accused of groping male staffers.

Massa admitted that he did touch a male member of his staff, but the congressman claims he was just tickling him.  This was the most exciting part of his hour long interview with Glenn Beck.

On CNN Wednesday night, Larry King asked Massa if he was gay.  The Congressman refused to answer and called the question "offensive."  You can watch that interview here.

Senator Joe Lieberman announces bill to repeal "Don't Ask, Don't Tell"

Senator Joe Lieberman introduced a bill on Wednesday that will repeal the ban on gays serving openly in the military.

Lieberman, I- Conn., made the argument that the "don't ask, don't tell" is both discriminatory and detrimental to national security.  Several Democrats from the Senate Armed Forces Committee stood with Lieberman as he made the announcement.

"Don't ask, don't tell," which was implemented in 1993 (under Bill Clinton), prohibits gay members of the armed forces from revealing their sexual orientation.

Many military leaders have come forward saying they support the repeal and believe that gays and lesbians serving our country should be able to do so openly.  Defense Secretary Robert Gates has called the repeal "inevitable."

John A. Pérez becomes a pioneer as first gay speaker of California Assembly

REAL GAY

On Monday, Assemblymember John A. Pérez became California’s first openly gay Speaker of the Assembly.  This is a major milestone for LGBT leaders in politics.  This is one real gay we're going to be hearing a lot more about!

Gay advocates have delivered their stamp of approval!

"With his indispensible leadership and stellar track record, we have the utmost confidence in his ability to find solutions to the many challenges California faces," said Geoff Korrs of California Equality.

GLAAD Executive Director Jarett Barrios added, "This new role is also important for California’s Latino population, who might not come in contact with many LGBT people like them."

Speaker Pérez indirectly has a lot on his plate.  California, of course, briefly allowed gay marriage but later banned it.

Report: David Paterson will not run for Governor

BREAKING NEWS

WABC in New York is reporting that Governor David Paterson is dropping his bid for governor.

Paterson has been getting a lot of pressure from Attorney General Andrew Cuomo and other high-power Democrats who say he shouldn't run for the seat he inherited as former Governor Eliot Spitzer stepped down.

Earlier this week, Paterson asked Cuomo to investigate one of his own top aides.  Now, amidst rumors that the Governor resign from office, sources are evidently confirming that Paterson will not run again next year.

Governor Paterson, of course, has been a pioneer for gay rights in New York even calling a special session of the state Senate demanding the vote on marriage equality.  The measure failed.

Harold Ford Jr. gets cold reception by New York gay group

Harold Ford Jr. tried to save some face by speaking at the Stonewall Democrats meeting in Manhattan on Wednesday night, but it didn't seem to work very well.

Ford, who voted for a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage twice while elected to Congress in Tennessee, tried to explain why he suddenly likes the gays amidst a regular outburst of 'boos' and a sea of signs denouncing his presence.

“I falsely and wrongly believed that the two were equitable. I turned out to be wrong … I believe that the position that I hold now is the right position," Ford said.

Ford is expected to challenge Senator Kirsten Gillibrand in this fall's Democratic primary. He moved to New York after losing the 2006 U.S. Senate race in Tennessee at a time when we all thought Hillary Clinton would be President.

Lieberman to take the lead on repealing "Don't Ask, Don't Tell"

Independent Senator Joe Lieberman will leading the fight to repeal the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy that bans gays and lesbians from serving openly in the military, he announced on Monday.

“I have opposed the current policy of preventing gay Americans from openly serving in the military since its enactment in 1993,” Lieberman said in the statement. “To exclude one group of Americans from serving in the armed forces is contrary to our fundamental principles ... and weakens our defenses by denying our military the service of a large group of Americans who can help our cause.”

He isn't exactly the pioneer for the movement.  Kirsten Gillibrand, Hillary Clinton's replacement in the Senate, has been the chief advocate for repealing "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" in the Senate.

Having Lieberman, a former Democrat-turned-Independent, sponsor the legislation may be better for the bill.  These days, he seems to be more of a Republican anyway.

Republicans boo homophobic speaker at GOP conference [video]

STUPID BITCHES CLUB

This is an interesting development, in case you missed it.  At this past weekend's Conservative Political Action Conference, a group of Republicans booed Ryan Sorba of California Young Americans for Freedom for being a homophobe.  Does the GOP like us now?

Sorba, who got a roaring boo as he stood up, said he condemned CPAC for allowing a gay group to participate.

When he said he didn't think GOPride should be allowed to attend, the audience really let him have it.  To which Sorba replied, "bring it, bring it, I love it, I love it." He eventually shut his ignorant mouth and sat down without ever delivering his speech.

Who loves hate and bigotry? A stupid bitch, that's who!  That's what we're inducting Ryan Sorba into the GaySocialites.com stupid bitches club.

President Clinton "in great spirits" after minor procedure [video]

President Bill Clinton is recovering in New York after undergoing a procedure to have a clogged artery unblocked.

"He's in great spirits and on his way to a speedy recovery," said Steven Barnes, a spokesman for the Clinton Foundation.

At first there were rumors that President Clinton suffered a heart attack, but doctors are shooting down those rumors.

"He did not have a heart attack or any damage to his heart," said Dr. Alan Schwartz.

Secretary of State, Hillary Rodham Clinton, evidently rushed from Washington to New York.  Chelsea was also by her father's side.

GOP selling Valentine's Day cards to raise money

The Republican Party is getting pretty innovative with their fund-raising efforts.  This year's their capitalizing on Valentine's Day.  Who doesn't, so why not?

This year, the GOP is selling Valentine's Day cards as a fundraiser.   What do you get for your donation to the right wingers?  Well, each card takes a jab at either Barack Obama or another well-known Democratic leader.  President Obama's card says he has "saved or created millions of Valentines." (I don't get this one.)  A card with Senator Harry Reid and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi also carries the message that it was "crafted this Valentine's Day card behind closed doors."

I'll give to them though.  This is a great way to monopolize on a holiday that carries little controversy.  You know all those rednecks who can't afford a Mountain Dew anymore are going to spend all their money on GOP Valentine's Day cards to send with their kid to school.

NY State Senate wants Hiram Monserrate out, he refuses to go

DOUCHE BAG ALERT

We've got a breaking douche bag alert out of New York.  State Senator and convicted girlfriend abuser, Hiram Monserrate, refuses to take "get out" for an answer.

On Tuesday, the New York State Senate voted to boot Monserrate out of office.  By an overwhelming vote of 53 to 8, Hiram's colleagues told him to hit the road misdemeanor assault against his girlfriend brought shame on the chamber.

We have known that Monserrate was a douche bag for a while.  Not only because he beat his girlfriend, but he was the ring leader in the New State Senate stalemate that could have ruined the chances of marriage equality in New York.

I say good-bye to this douche bag.  If they can get him to go.  Hiram wants to stay so badly that he is appealing.  Who would want to show up to work every day knowing that your co-workers hate you in 53 to 8 ration?  Not me!

Obama condemns anti-gay law in Uganda

Barack Obama condemned an anti-gay law in Uganda that calls for the death penalty in cases of "aggravated homosexuality" earlier this week.

"We may disagree about gay marriage, but surely we can agree that it is unconscionable to target gays and lesbians for who they are, whether it is here in the United States or... more extremely, in odious laws that are being proposed most recently in Uganda," Obama said.

Obama made these comments at the National Prayer Breakfast, a bipartisan gathering of lawmakers and religious leaders in Washington DC.

Bill O'Reilly and Jon Stewart make an interesting duo [Video]

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT...

Here is some of the video of Jon Stewart going at it with Bill O'Reilly.

These two have been making headlines all week long after Stewart appeared on Fox News' "The O'Reilly Factor."

Stewart and O'Reilly took several jabs at each other and at the credibility of Fox News and the Daily Show.  In the end, it all seems to be done in good fun.  All parties involved really seemed to take the banter light heartedly.

It definitely made for good TV!

O'Reilly to feature Jon Stewart on two-day special

Thursday and Friday night, you have a reason to watch Fox News.  Jon Stewart will appear on the "O'Reilly Factor".

This is the second time that Stewart will appear on O'Reilly's conservative news show.

O'Reilly is a good sport.  He's appeared on Jon Stewart's "Daily Show" three times already.  Stewart is always a hoot, and O'Reilly (as evil as he is) generally rolls with the punches.

"Don't ask, don't tell" almost a thing of the past [video]

It looks like the "Don't ask, don't tell" policy is all but lifted.

The Pentagon's top uniformed officer, Adm. Mike Mullen, told the Senate Tuesday he's personally opposed to the policy that requires gays and lesbians to lie about their sexual orientation.

Colin Powell also shifted gears on Wednesday and said he now opposes "don't ask, don't tell" as well.

"In the almost 17 years since the ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ legislation was passed, attitudes and circumstances have changed,” General Powell said in a statement issued by his office. He added: “I fully support the new approach presented to the Senate Armed Services Committee this week by Secretary of Defense Gates and Admiral Mullen.”

President Obama made the repeal one of his campaign platform issues.  Many expected it to have already been checked off his list.

Should Eliot Spitzer really be taking jabs at anyone, especially Gillibrand

EDITORIAL

Is defamed former New York Governor, Eliot Spitzer, trying to make us hate him more and more?  I mean, could the man dig himself any deeper?

Spitzer took a jab at highly popular New York Senator, Kirsten Gillibrand.  If the former governor wouldn't have lost his job for sleeping with a hooker, Spitzer says he would not have picked Gillbrand to replace Hillary Clinton in the Senate “under any circumstance” because her “views on issues are either wrong or too malleable.”

“We need people in leadership now who know what they believe, who are willing to stand up and state what they believe and make tough decisions on critical issues relating to the economy, civil rights, issues of crime and punishment, guns, same-sex marriage” Spitzer told WAMC’s Alan Chartock. “And I just think on every one of those scores, she fails.”

In her response, Gillibrand took the high road (as usual). "I'm just going to run on my record, and everyone's entitled to his opinion,"

I'm not sure what the hell Spitzer is doing back in the public eye (and having the nerve to attack anymore), but Senator Gillibrand will likely face opposition from former Tennessee Congressman Harold Ford, Jr.

Only four years for Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State?

hillary_clinton_sos_4ys.jpg

In a recent interview with PBS host Tavis Smiley, Hillary Clinton admits that she'll likely only be Secretary of State for four years.

Smiley asked Clinton if she would serve eight years to which she replied: "No, I really can't."

"The whole eight -- that would be very challenging," she said in the interview broadcast Wednesday on public television.

"It's a 24-7 job and I think at some point, I will be very happy to pass it on to someone else," Clinton said.

This could mean a few things for Hillary... 1) another run for President 2) personal time 3) she's being coy as usual and will do the job again if asked.  You know I love her more than any other politician, but that's the way she rolls!

Obama calls to repeal "Don't ask, don't tell", McCain says don't do it [video]

POLITICS

During Wednesday night's State of the Union address, Barack Obama called on Congress to repeal the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy.

Those remarks garnered an applause from Obama's Republican Defense Secretary Robert Gates, but others weren't so kind.

While his wife may be supporting gay rights, Obama's most recent opposition John McCain wants to make it clear that he doesn't support the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell."

Here's what Senator McCain had to say:

"In his State of the Union address, President Obama asked Congress to repeal the 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' policy. I am immensely proud of, and thankful for, every American who wears the uniform of our country, especially at a time of war, and I believe it would be a mistake to repeal the policy.

"This successful policy has been in effect for over fifteen years, and it is well understood and predominantly supported by our military at all levels. We have the best trained, best equipped, and most professional force in the history of our country, and the men and women in uniform are performing heroically in two wars. At a time when our Armed Forces are fighting and sacrificing on the battlefield, now is not the time to abandon the policy."

Could you be more of a douche-bag?

Elizabeth Edwards finally leaves cheating husband, John

POLITICS

People Magazine is reporting that former Senator John Edward's wife, Elizabeth, has finally left him.  Their source even says the former political power couple is actually legally separated.

While running for President, John cheated on Elizabeth and fathered a love child.  At first, she stood by her husband's side.

The worse part of the entire story is that Elizabeth is dying of cancer.  At first John denied the affair with Rielle Hunter and that he was the father of her newborn baby.

Edwards later admitted that he had not been faithful to his wife and even more recently confessed that he was the father of Hunter's baby.

Now, sources tell People that Elizabeth has finally walked away!  We say, you go girl!

Mrs. Edwards has always been a friend to the gays even when her cheating husband refused to support marriage equality to include the LGBTQ community.

Andrew Cuomo likely to run against David Paterson for governor

POLITICS

It looks like there will be a battle for the governor's office in New York after all, and it might all take place in the Democratic primary.

Sources say Attorney General Andrew Cuomo will announce in March that he will run against David Paterson for Governor.

Cuomo has been setting himself up for a run over the past year, Cuomo has been seen everywhere and evidently has a war chest five times the size of Patterson's.

Palin's want their share of Levi Johnston's PlayGirl money

Levi Johnston's Playgirl experience boosted him into the six-figure bracket, so now Bristol Palin wants her share of the dough.

Who knew that Levi would make $105,000 off his nudie shoot and surrounding interviews?  According to TMZ, Alaska law requires that non-custodial parents must pay 20% of their income which comes to $1,750 a month.

It doesn't stop there, Bristol wants back payment all the way back to when Tripp was born.

Levi's manager says that he has paid over $10,000 so far, but wouldn't confirm how much Johnston earned from the Playgirl shoot and interviews.

White Trash of the Week: John Edwards [video]

WHITE TRASH OF THE WEEK

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

As the week progressed, I was getting worried that no white trash (WT) moments were going to pop up, and then along comes John Edwards!

The former Presidential candidate admitted that the accusations are true.  Not only did Edwards cheat on his wife Elizabeth while she was recovering from cancer; but he is also the father of a love child with that woman.

The National Enquirer exposed Edward's story, and everything in their reports seems to true.  Edwards admitted that is the father of Rielle Hunter's daughter, Quinn.

That makes John Edwards our White Trash of the week.  This North Carolina-born, Senator from South Carolina has WT in his blood!

Does Cindy McCain's involvment in NOH8 campaign mean Republicans are flip-flopping on LGBT rights?

cindy_mccain_no_h82.jpg

That's Senator John McCain's wife, Cindy, in her NOH8 campaign photo shot by photographer Adam Bouska.

If you've been living in the closet, NOH8 is a photo campaign to support marriage equality for the LGBT community.

In a blog entry on the his website, Bouska wonders if Cindy McCain's support for the NOH8 campaign might be a sign of changing times.

"The McCains are one of the most well-known Republican families in recent history, and for Mrs. McCain to have reached out to us to offer her support truly means a lot," Bouska said.

Cindy's daughter Meghan, a vocal advocate of gay rights and marriage equality, was the first member of the family to join the NOH8 campaign.  No word on whether Senator McCain will follow in his family's footsteps and take his mouth as well.

Scott Brown posed nude for Cosmo now he wants to fill Ted Kennedy's shoes

The contest to replace the late Senator Ted Kennedy in Massachusetts has taken several twists and turns over the past couple of days, and it doesn't show any sign of slowing down as the campaigns wrap up.

The Democrats were a bit shocked last week to find that their candidate, Martha Coakley, was in a statistical dead heat with Republican Scott Brown.

It's a real shit show, but you haven't heard the best part yet.  This week naked pictures of Brown surfaced from a vintage Cosmo magazine.

scott_brown_naked_scott.jpg

From Cosmo Centerfold winner to replacing Ted Kennedy in the United States Senate.  Could this really happen?  If so, Levi Johnston might be famous one day after all!

Despite the fact that we usually go for beauty over brains around here, GaySocialites.com has endorsed Martha Mokley for the position.

A special election is being held to replace the legendary leader who died late last year.

Jersey's new Governor, Chris Christie, is a stupid bitch [vudeo]

STUPID BITCHES CLUB

chris_christie_fat.jpg

It's a monumental day for the Stupid Bitches Club (SBC) as many as we induct our biggest member yet.

Today, GaySocialites.com will induct the fattest member ever into the SBC.

New Jersey's heavy weight  gov-to-be,.Chris Christie, is the latest inductee and definitely weighs more than any other member we've deemed a stupid bitch in the past.

It isn't Christie's fat ass that landed him the SBC, necessarily. It is his stance on gay marriage. Christie evidently recently said that marriage isn't a right at all. He says it is an honor bestowed on those who deserve it making a week comparison to obtaining a driver's license. So, basically it seems that NJ's Governor-elect believes we aren't privileged enough to tie the knot.

That's cool, because we think Mr. Christie is a fat ass, stupid bitch. He joins such members as Britney Spears, the New York Senators who voted against gay marriage, Sarah Palin and many others as members of the SBC..

Christie is scheduled to be sworn in as the Governor of New Jersey on Tuesday.

GaySocialites.com endorses Martha Coakley to replace Ted Kennedy in Senate

POLITICAL ENDORSEMENT

The late Senator Edward Kennedy will roll in his grave if the Democrats lose his Senate seat to the Republicans.

If Martha Coakley doesn't beat Scott Brown, then the earth might rattle.  GaySocialites.com is proud to endorse Coakley, not just because she will help the Democrats maintain their 60 seat majority.

The late Ted Kennedy fought for universal health care for the majority of his political career, and it would be an insult to all of his work if someone doesn't carry that torch til then end.

This weekend, Barack Obama is even headed to Massachusetts to campaign Coakley.  I encourage you to do the same.

Pentagon begins talks on "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" repeal

The Pentagon took a huge step forward to repeal the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy.  Doing so would fulfill a huge campaign promise for Barack Obama and possibly earn some much needed brownie points for the President.

According to the New York Times, a small group was assembled by Adm. Mike Mullen, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in preparation for a possible Senate hearing on the 1993 law this month.

The repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" was expected to be one of Obama's first tasks; but gay groups claim the Pentagon has dragged their feet on making the President's promise come true.

Photo could say it all about Kristen Gillibrand, Harold Ford Jr. race

SHOT OF THE DAY

gillbrand_ford_sharpton.jpg

Our shot of the day comes from a press conference in New York on the Haitian earthquake disaster, but it could say a lot about the political landscape in the Empire State.

Standing on the left is Harold Ford, Jr.  He moved to New York after losing a Senate race in Tennessee during a time when it looked like Hillary Clinton would be President.  In the middle, of course, is Reverend Al Sharpton.  Standing to his right is Senator Kristen Gillibrand.  She is the person who was chosen by Governor David Paterson to replace Clinton when she became Secretary of State.

Ford recently announced that he suddenly supports marriage equality in New York whereas he didn't support gay rights in Tennessee.  Gillibrand quickly started working for the gays when she went to the Senate.  It looks like they'll face-off in the Democratic primary for Gillibrand's seat this round.

This photo could say it all.  Look at the looks on the faces of Ford, Sharpton and Gillibrand.  Who is going to get nasty? Who is going to stir the pot and look away? Who is going to keep their eyes on the goal and likely take the high road?

Where does Harold Ford Jr. really fall on gay marriage [video]:

GAY MARRIAGE

Our friends over at Queerty are always known for being the investigators while we tend to report more of the fluff.

They've hit the jack pot!  Evidently, former Tennessee Representative Harold Ford, Jr. is testing the waters for a Senate run in New York against the woman who replaced Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Kristen Gillibrand.

Gillbrand has been a gay advocate since shortly after taking over for Clinton, but the same can't be said about her potential opponent.

In this campaign ad, Ford is adamant that while running for Senate in Tennessee, he does not support gay marriage:

Then, on Monday, Harold Ford Jr. told Matt Lauer that he has changed his mind and now support marriage equality.

You can guarantee that Queerty and others are going to keep Ford on his toes.

January 11, 2010

Harold Ford, Jr. comes out for gay marriage. Can he be New York's next Senator?

Former Tennessee Representative Harold Ford Jr. has packed up and moved to New York.  Now, it looks like he is eying a run against Kristen Gillibrand for Hillary Clinton's United States Senate seat.

When I heard the news over the weekend,  I thought Ford would surely be doomed.  How could he ever beat gay-loving Gillibrand if he opposes gay marriage?

Problem solved.  Now, Harold Ford Jr. has decided that supports marriage equality despite the fact that he did not want gays to wed when he was running for US Senate in Tennessee.

"He supports gay marriage, in the interest of fairness and equality," Ford spokesman Davidson Goldin told The Post.

Ford said it himself on Monday's "Today Show" when Matt Lauer asked, "So you're now in favor of same sex marriage?"

"Civil unions and same-sex marriage, yes," Ford said.

What's the story with the ambulance at Obama's vacation home in Hawaii?

obama_ambulance_hawaii.jpg

Barack Obama and a armored motorcade escorted an ambulance in Hawaii on Monday as the President's vacation was interrupted by what is now being called a "run of the mill beach injury."

"The First Family is fine," White House spokesman Bill Burton said.  First Lady Michelle Obama, and her two daughters weren't in need of medical attention.  However, one of the children of the President's inner circle evidently got hurt and needed to be checked out after a fall on the beach.

Burton later said that the wounded child was the son of Obama buddies Eric and Cheryl Whitaker.  The youngster didn't even need stitches in the end.  According to the White House staff, he has "released from hospital. He is at home playing with his friends and just fine."  The President was evidently back on the golf course shortly after.

Tennessee's Bart Gordon to retire from Congress

Tennessee Democrat Bart Gordon says he won't run for re-election to Congress in 2010.  This makes his the fourth House Democrat to retire a bit earlier than expected.

Gordon was first voted into Congress in 1984 and has won re-election easily just about every time especially in recent years.

"I feel honored that the people of Middle Tennessee have allowed me to serve them for the past 25 years," said Gordon.  "Every decision I have made in Congress has been with their best interests in mind.  I hope the people here at home feel that I have served them as well as their good advice and views have served me."

So why the early retirement for Gordon?

"When I was elected, I was the youngest member of the Tennessee congressional delegation; now, I’m one of the oldest. In fact, I have members of my staff who weren’t even born when I took office. That tells me it’s time for a new chapter."

With Gordon's retirement, a Republican could easily snag this seat.  John McCain won 62% of the vote in this district during the last Presidential election.

New Jersey Senate could vote on gay marriage this week [video]

GAY MARRIAGE

This week, the marriage equality debate moves to New Jersey where a Senate committee has voted to recommend that the full legislature votes on gay marriage this week.

After hours of emotional debate, the committee passed the measure by a vote of 7 to 6.  Now, gay marriage could come to a vote as early as Thursday for Jersey legislators.

Senators in the committee did make one change to the original bill stating that religious organizations will not be required to marry gay couples if they do not want to do so.

Protest like this one have been held state wide this week, and many more are expected.

If Carl Kruger is gay, why is he against gay marriage?

The shit has hit the fan for New York State Senator, Carl Kruger.  The unmarried old Democrat from Brooklyn got heckled by gay rights activists as he exited the Senate Chambers on Wednesday after he voted against a bill that would legalize gay marriage.

Kruger, who is rumored to be gay, might be one of the many Senators who voted on the issue for political gain.

New York Governor David Paterson called out some of those self righteous politicans on Thursday morning calling Wednesday "as sad a day as I've had since I joined public service"

Here's how each New York state Senator voted on the gay marriage bill:

GAY MARRIAGE

Now that each New York State Senator has cast their vote on the gay marriage issue, we know where each falls on the issue.

There were some surprises in the "No" column like girlfriend beater Hiram Monserrate and Ruben Diaz.  They're the ones who sent the Senate into gridlock during the regular session by switching parties.  It's unlikely that either will get re-elected.

There's a complete list of the yay's and nay's here:

NY Senate votes against gay marriage 24-38

GAY MARRIAGE

Sadly, in a sense, it wasn't even close.  New York's State Senate voted down a measure on Wednesday  that would have legalized gay marriage in the Empire State.

After hours of emotional testimony, the bill was defeated by a vote of 24 to 38.

Senator Tom Duane of Manhattan made this emotional plea before the vote: "This legislation would merely provide me and tens of thousands of other New Yorkers with equal rights in New York State. It would make me equal in every way to everyone else in this chamber."

I guess Sen. Duane's peers in the State Senate don't see him or us as equal.  It's a sad day in New York State.

GaySocialites.com is working to obtain the roll call to see which Senators are against us and which ones are for us.  We'll publish that as soon as we receive it.

New York Senate delays gay marriage vote again

GAY MARRIAGE

New York's State Senate once again delayed a vote on gay marriage late Tuesday in what seems to be a game of political chess.  When does gay marriage get its turn?

Wednesday could be the day, but no one seems to be getting their hopes up about it.

The session that took place on Tuesday was a real shit show!  Governor Paterson and Senate leadership went at each other all week.  On Monday, the Governor went to Brooklyn to campaign for re-election while the Senate sat in a mandatory session upstate.  On Wednesday, they all took stabs at each other, at times even through the media, that ended in another do-nothing day in the Senate.

Here's to hoping gay marriage comes to a vote on Wednesday in New York and passes.  I'm an ordained minister and ready to marry!

Chelsea Clinton is getting married!

Hillary Clinton's little girl is getting married.  Over the Thanksgiving holiday, Chelsea Clinton confirmed the rumors that she's getting hitched to long time boyfriend Marc Mezvinsky.

My generation has basically grown up with Chelsea.  One thing is certain, this woman is a completely different person that the clumsy little girl who moved into the White House with Bill Clinton.

We all had our awkward stage, but Chelsea experienced hers as the daughter of the President.  What I'm saying is that she's been in the spotlight for a while, so it is easy feel an emotional connection to her engagement.  There, I said.

Clinton and Mezvinsky plan to marry next year.

Atlanta Mayoral candidates fight for gay vote

If you're gay and a voter in Atlanta, you're ass is probably getting kissed by both candidates for Mayor in the upcoming run-off election.

Former state Senator Kasim Reed has rehashing his accomplishments for the gay community including a hate crime bill.

Councilwoman Mary Norwood (pictured here) evidently attended an Anti-Prop 8 rally and her website even displays a gay flag.

"I cannot recall a mayor's race when there's been so much attention placed on the gay and lesbian vote," said Jeff Graham, executive director of Georgia Equality, the state's largest gay rights group.

According to the LA Times, the gay vote has been a coveted political prize for some time in Atlanta.

Google won't remove offensive Obama photo

Some folks are pissed after a racist photo of First Lady Michelle Obama popped up in the Google Image search.

The photo, which evidently features the First Lady with monkey like features, won't be removed though.

Google says the images in their search are chosen with "algorithms using thousands of factors to calculate a page's relevance to a given query," and had nothing to do with the "beliefs and preferences of Google employees and the general public."

So will the offensive photo of Mrs. Obama be removed? The answer is no.

The Google ad explains: "Accordingly, we do not remove a page from our search results simply because its content is unpopular or because we receive complaints concerning it," the disclaimer says. "We will, however, remove pages from our results if we believe the page (or its site) violates our webmaster guidelines, if we believe we are required to do so by law, or at the request of the webmaster who is responsible for the page."

Google delivered the news through an ad on their network titled, "Sometimes our search results can be offensive." Duh. "We assure you that the views expressed by such sites are not in any way endorsed by Google," the ad explained.

Exclusive look at Levi Johnston's Playgirl photo shoot

EXCLUSIVE

levi_johnston_playgirl_exclusive.jpg

Here is the best look we've seen yet from the Levi Johnston's photo shoot for Playgirl.  The photos are leaking out left and right, but we're told this might be the closest thing we'll get to seeing a full frontal shot of Levi.

This photo is the steamiest photo I've seen yet.  Having seen what appears to be all of the photos from the spread to appear on Playgirl.com, this one is the most revealing from the front.

When the photos are officially released by Playgirl in January, you'll get to see some cute shots from the rear too.  While Levi isn't in amazing shape, he's got a cute tush!

First review of Levi Johnston's nudie pics

We've been talking about the release of Levi Johnston's Playgirl photos like school girls waiting for prom.  Over the weekend, I got to see the pictures.  Unless Playgirl is holding out on something, I'm not hugely impressed.  Still, however, it something you won't want to miss when Playgirl.com officially releases the photos in January.

There were a few butt shots in the lot of photos that I saw, but that's about it.  I didn't see even a peak at Levi's 'Johnston'.

Playgirl released a few photos of Levi over the weekend cropped from the waist up.  I think he looked a little gay in those, but the others seem to be a little more rugged.

In most of the shots that I saw, Levi is standing in a shower playing in the water.  There was some talk of a hockey stick, but I didn't see that.

And I know you're wondering about the butt.  Yeh, it's pretty cute.  I expected Levi to be a little more buff, but he has warned us that he isn't in the shape that he wanted to be for the shoot.  I guess he wasn't lying.

Sarah Palin gets booed by angry mob at book signing [video]

STUPID BITCHES CLUB

This is our first ever dual induction into the Stupid Bitches Club (SBC).  Today, we induct Sarah Palin and the idiots who waited three hours for her to sign their book.

If Palin really quit her gig as Governor of Alaska to focus on national recognition, she is not off to a good start.

While signing copies of her book, "Going Rogue," in Noblesville, Indiana late last week; a crowd of Palin supporters quickly turned against Sarah when she refused to sign their books.

Evidently, over 300 stupid bitches wasted more than 3 hours waiting to get Palin's autograph on their book. However, Palin (also a stupid bitch) snubbed many of them and just left them standing as her fancy tour bus rolled off.  As you'll see in the video above, the crowd boos and turns against the former Republican Vice-Presidential nominee.

In response, the stupid bitch says "something" is being done for the 300 stupid bitches.  That seems a bit infeasible and illogical... typical Palin style!

Playgirl releases teaser photos of Levi Johnston's photo shoot

levi_johnston_playgirl_tease.jpg

Playgirl.com has released a few teaser pictures of Levi Johnston as they continue to build the hype around his nudie debut.

These on-revealing waste-up photos were released online over the weekend by Playgirl.com showing a tease of Johnston's photo shoot.

Creative director, Daniel Nardicio, sure knows what he is doing!  By introducing a tid bit of Levi's Playgirl shoot this weekend, people began flocking to the website signing up for memberships. All while trying to catch a glimpse of Sarah Palin's would-be son-in-law in the buff.

A few weeks ago, Levi's publicists/ manager/ bodyguard Tank Jones said: "People are going to see more of Levi than they thought." Evidently that isn't the case.

Levi says he never planned on showing his penis in the shoot.  Rumor has it, he covered it up with a hockey stick.  C'mon, a little butt action at least?

And correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Levi come across as a little... errr... gay in these pictures?  I'm just saying...

Does Hoboken's City Council hate dogs?

A simple city ordinance that would allow a doggie daycare to relocate in Hoboken, NJ has failed to pass through the city council.  It may seem like the Hoboken City Council hates dogs, but as it turns out - these childish politicians just hate one another.

The vote that would have allowed Hoboken Unleashed to move just a few blocks away failed at a city council meeting this week in what appears to be a struggle for political power.

The new Mayor, Dawn Zimmer, seems to be feeling the heat from her former opponent who also sits on the city council.  Beth Mason (pictured here looking super drowsy) seems to have basically put the council on gridlock by stacking her allies against Zimmer to make a big deal out of issues that should easily pass.

As a result, legislation that needs to pass will likely be haulted by shady politics.  This measure, for example, has already passed once yet it failed last night.

If you live in Hoboken, please take a moment to call your representative on the City Council.  Please ask them to allow the dogs to have a place to play and vote in favor of the ordinance allowing Hoboken Unleashed to move to a new home.

Levi Johnston opens up about Playgirl pics and Sarah Palin [video]

Levi Johnston's photo shoot for Playgirl is done, and the pictures will evidently be available online early next year.

Yes, we all have to wait until January to see the full Johnston; but it seems that the shoot went well.

As a would've-been Palin in-law, Levi and his mangers/bodyguard/publicist Tank Johnson are both bragging about the shoot calling it "fantastic!"

While in New York for his Playgirl shoot,  Levi sat down with the CBS Early Show for this interview:

He isn't the most well-spoken fella, but he's country.  I, for one, can't wait to see Levi in the buff.  Our good friend, Daniel Nardicio, served as artistic director.  Some shoots evidently also involved a hockey stick.  Prrrrrrrrr

My favorite part of the interview above is when Levi talks about all of the cougar prisoners hitting on him while he visits his mother in jail.  Classy.

It's a good thing we all just want to see Johnston naked.  Who care whether or not he can hold a conversation?!

Palin, the person who dragged Levi into the spotlight, released a statement trying to fight off any negative comments that Johnston has made about her and her family.  CBS read a part of the statement and stressed that they have invited Palin on their show several times.

Remember what happened the last time Sarah Palin went to CBS?  Katie Couric kicked her ass!

Sarah Palin invites Levi Johnston over for Thanksgiving dinner

When Levi Johnston wraps his Playgirl shoot in New York, he's got another invite on the calendar.  His would-be mother-in-law, Sarah Palin, wants him to come over for Thanksgiving dinner.

"It's lovely to think that he would ever even consider such a thing," Palin told Oprah Winfrey in an interview set to air the day before the publication of her memoir titled "Going Rogue." />

"Because," she said, "he is a part of the family and you want to bring him in the fold and kind of under your wing. And he needs that, too, Oprah. I think he needs to know that he is loved and he has the most beautiful child and this can all work out for good."

I'm sure Sarah doesn't really want Levi to come over to her house.  I mean this week he's posting nude and hanging with New York City's King of Sleeze, Daniel Nardicio.  Next week, he's having Thanksgiving dinner with the most conservative woman on the planet.  I seriously doubt it.

The entire Oprah interview with Sarah Palin airs on Monday.  Check your local listings.

President Obama calls job summit at White House [video]

We're all feeling the slump in the economy in one way or another, but President Obama is trying to prove to us that he cares.  How's he gonna do it?  Obama-style, with a summit on job creation at the White House.

The president says he will pull together small-business owners, corporate executives, economists, financial experts and union leaders to discuss ideas on ways to speed up job creation in the United States.

"We all know there are limits to what government can and should do even during such difficult times," Obama said at the White House Thursday before leaving on a nine-day trip to Asia. "But we have an obligation to consider every additional, responsible step that we can to encourage and accelerate job creation in this country."

White House aides said no date has been set for the summit.

Is Barney Frank smoking the ganja?

After a confession on Friday by openly gay Representative Barney Frank, many are wondering today if the Congressman is a pot head.

Evidently, when Frank's boyfriend James Ready got arrested in his home on marijuana charges, Frank was there.

MyFoxBoston is reporting that Ready was charged with marijuana possession, cultivation and use of drug paraphernalia.  He pleaded guilty to civil possession and paid a fine.  The rest of the charges were dropped last year.

Frank said he did not know his boyfriend was growing weed and was not charged.  He continues to be an advocate for the legalization of medicinal marijuana.

I saw legalize it, and we'll all light up together!

New York Goverson David Paterson calls special session on gay marriage, budget

New York Governor David Paterson signed a proclamation calling an "extraordinary" session of the Legislature to address issues not resolved before the regular session ended earlier this year. One of those hot topics is marriage equality.

In addition to the gay marriage debate, the governor will also address the state's budget deficit.

The special session will convene on November 10 at noon.

Senate leader John Sampson says he may not have the votes to pass a same sex marriage bill, but Paterson says he wants to see how the votes fall.

Openly gay candidate soars to run-off election in Houston's race for mayor

ELECTION RESULTS

Maine may not be ready to let gays get married, but Houston sure seems ready to have a gay mayor!

On Tuesday night, Annise Parker finished ahead of a packed crowd of mayoral hopefuls. Parker didn't grab the office just yet, but she will head into a run-off election in mid-December.

If Parker wins the final race, she will be the first openly gay mayor in a top 10 US city.

Margaret Chin, Christine Quinn both win landslide victories in NY City Council races

ELECTION RESULTS

Two candidates endorsed by GaySocialites.com have won seats on the New York City Council.  Speaker Christine Quinn won a third term in the third district while Margaret Chin defeated her opponent in the first district.

Both women won by a significant margin earning more than 80% of the vote in their respective races.

Quinn is the first openly gay speaker of the New York City Council, and Chin defeated the incumbent in her primary.  These are some pretty impressive wins for some pretty impressive women.

Republicans win Governor's races in VA, NJ

ELECTION RESULTS

chris_christie_wins.jpg

Members of the GOP are beaming with joy tonight celebrating wins that will put Republicans in the Virgina and New Jersey Governors' offices.

In Virginia, Bob McDowell beat Creigh Deeds, and in Jersey Chris Christie defeated incumbent John Corzine.

Many believe this could deliver a blow to Barack Obama who carried both these states one year ago and spend a great deal of time campaigning for the Democrats in both of these races.

Tuesday night's election results may also cause problems for the marriage equality efforts in the Garden State.  If Corzine wants a gay marriage victory under his adminstration, then he'll have to get the bill signed by the end of the year.

Michael Bloomberg elected to third term as NYC Mayor

ELECTION RESULTS

No big surprise, but Michael Bloomberg is the projected winner in the New York City mayor's race.

Bloomberg, who ran as a Republican but serves as an Independent, defeated Democratic challenger Bill Thompson in a race that even we here at GaySocialites.com didn't even expect to be so close.

According to The New York Times, the Daily News and NY1 television; with 96 percent of the votes counted, Bloomberg was ahead 51 to 46 percent.

This will be Bloomberg's third term as Mayor of New York, a city that normally limits leaders to two, four years terms.  This year, the City Council voted to extend term limits for Mayor Bloomberg and themselves.

Dawn Zimmer wins landslide victory in Hoboken Mayor's race

ELECTION RESULTS

Dawn Zimmer will hold onto the Hoboken Mayor's office.  Zimmer won the office by a landslide after serving the past few months as acting Mayor following the resignation of Peter Cammarano.

Zimmer beat her closest competitors Councilwoman Beth Mason and former Board of Education President Frank Raia by nearly 2,000 votes.

In her acceptance speech, Mayor Zimmer pointed out that she spent less than her competitors and now plans to cut Hoboken's budget.

Virginia and New Jersey Governor's Races putting Barack Obama to the test

POLITICS

One year ago, Barack Obama was elected President of the United States by a landslide winning solid blue states like New Jersey and even taking traditionally red states like Virginia.

Now Obama's staying power might be getting put to the test as Democrats in both Virigina and New Jersey are struggling for a win.

President Obama has been to both states several times, but his star power may not even be enough to help these two struggling Democrats out.

In the New Jersey Governor's race, polls show the race tight between incumbent Jon Corzine (D) and challenger Chris Christie (R).  In Virginia, it doesn't look good for the Democrat Creigh Deeds.  He'll likely get wiped out by Republican challenger Bob McDonnell.

A McDonnell win in Virginia would not be as big as a Christie in NJ, but either could be damaging to Obama's power in mid-term elections.  What do you think?

GaySocialites endorsements for 2009 elections

POLITICAL ENDORSEMENT

This isn't exactly a mid-term election, but it might give President Barack Obama a taste of what is to come next year when he faces a full re-haul of Congress.

GaySocialites.com has endorsed candidates in various races and of course denounced Proposition One in Maine, the measure to ban gay marriage.

Proposition One in Maine:
GaySocialites.com, of course, encourages you to vote against Proposition 1 in Maine.  If this proposition fails, and I think it will, Maine will be the first state to vote in favor of marriage equality.  Please get out and vote for what's right if you're in Maine! Vote no on Prop 1.

Mayor, New York City: Michael Bloomberg (R):
"When Democratic Governor David Paterson announced legislation that would legalize gay marriage in New York, Mayor Bloomberg was right by his side.  Mike has always been a friend to the gays, and he has always pushed for equality for our community.... On November 3rd, GaySocialites.com encourages you to make the right choice and re-elect Michael Bloomberg as Mayor. Bill Thompson is the wrong man for the job, whether he's a Democrat or not!"

City Council, District 1 - New York CIty, Margaret Chin (D):
"The race for New York's City Council in the First District hits close to home for me, literally.  That's because I live in the Financial District, and that is also the World Headquarters for GaySocialites.com... Clearly a strong personality and a grass roots leader, Chin is what we need to represent the First District of the greatest city in the world.  The person who represents from Chinatown to Battery Park and from South Ferry to Battery Bark City also represents the land on which City Hall sets.  We need a dedicated leader with a solid agenda. That's why GaySocialites.com would like to endorse Margaret Chin for Cty Council in our district."

City Council - District 3, New York City- Christine Quinn (D - Speaker):
"I've said it before, and I'll say it again.  The third district has a chance to do something great for New York City by re-electing Christine Quinn to the City Council  We can definitely use her leadership! "

Governor, New Jersey - Jon Corzine (D):
"...for the LGBT community, the choice should be clear.  Jon Corzine is a pioneer for gay rights, and the governor has promised to sign gay marriage into law in New Jersey within the next year."

Mayor, Hoboken (New Jersey) - Dawn Zimmer:
"In Tuesday's special election, Zimmer is hoping to hold onto the Mayor's office.  We hope she does too. Zimmer has offered a fresh, grassroots approach to governing Hoboken's highly populated one square mile.  She has reinstated a sense of trust in the mayor's office and hit the ground running with only a few months in office. Last Spring, Zimmer's campaign told GaySocialites.com exclusively that she supports legislation to legalize gay marriage in New Jersey."

Mayor, Houston (Texas) -  Annise Parker (D):
"Houston could be the first top 10 US city to elect an openly gay mayor tomorrow, and things are looking good for Annise Parker."

Whether you support our choices or not, please exercise your right to vote on Tuesday if your state is holding elections.

We'll have results from these races and others on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

GaySocialites.com endorses Margaret Chin for NYC District 1 City Council

POLITICAL ENDORSEMENT

The race for New York's City Council in the First District hits close to home for me, literally.  That's because I live in the Financial District, and that is also the World Headquarters for GaySocialites.com.  Regular readers know that, but what many of you may not know is that I considered running for this seat myself.

Living in a rent stabilized building that stands the threat of instability or forced evictions to make way for new condos, having someone who can represent my personal interests is clearly important.  In the primary, the incumbent Alan Gerson, was defeated by Margaret Chin.  Chin, also a resident of the Financial District turned heads doing what many of us thought we couldn't do... beat the incumbent.

That's why GaySocialites.com would like to endorse Margaret Chin for Cty Council in our district.  We hope the 'neighborhood gays' will rally behind us and swing by the poll to vote for Chin.  She's what we need, and I'm happy to put my support behind her.

GaySocialites.com endorses Christine Quinn for City Council

POLITICAL ENDORSEMENT

We didn't intentionally wait until the last minute to make this endorsement, but honestly we didn't even know she had any competition.  Honesty is the best policy, right?

As we did in the Democratic Primary, GaySocialites.com is pleased to endorse Christine Quinn for re-election in New Yorks Third District City Council Race.

Quinn has been a pioneer for gay rights standing with Governor David Paterson and Mayor Mike Bloomberg as they called for the state Senate to pass legislation for marriage equality in New York.

Speaker Quinn, or Chris as her constituents call her, has also fought hard for expanding affordable housing, safety on our streets and civil rights for all.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again.  The third district has a chance to do something great for New York City by re-electing Christine Quinn to the City Council  We can definitely use her leadership!

Houston could be largest US city to elect openly gay mayor

POLITICS

Houston could be the first top 10 US city to elect an openly gay mayor tomorrow, and things are looking good for Annise Parker.

Parker has been with her partner for almost 20 years, and they have two adopted kids.  She's a family woman, and she might be Houston's next mayor if the polls are correct.

A Lake Research poll released this week showed Parker in the lead with 27 percent of the vote. Brown had 21 percent and Locke had 17 percent. The undecided voters, at 24 percent, could determine the election.

Obama says US will lift HIV travel ban [video]

Barack Obama said the United States will lift the HIV travel ban next year.  Don't go giving the President all of the credit yet.  This was actually something that was started by the Bush administration.

Obama said his crew will put the final touches on the plans early next week.

"If we want to be the global leader in combatting HIV/AIDS, we need to act like it," Obama said at the White House before signing a bill to extend the Ryan White HIV/AIDS program.

That program, started during the George HW Bush's presidency provides medical care, medication and support services to about half a million people who live with HIV and AIDS.

New Jersey candidate uses impersonators to mimick opponents [video]

SHOT OF THE DAY

Today's shot of the day is from the highly contested New Jersey Governor's race.  Third party candidate, Christopher Daggett, is running advertisements like this one in which he uses impersonators who look like his opponents to make his point.

In this commercial, impersonators acting like Icumbent Jon Corzine and Republican challenger Chris Christie holding up New Jersey families.  Of course, Daggett leads them to the top and bails out his opponents.

The race is tight in Jersey, but it doesn't look good for Daggett.  Corzine and Christie are in a race that is neck-and-neck.  GaySocialites.com has endorsed Corzine in this race.  He currently leads the polls by a slight margin.

Democrats reach agreement on health care bill

The Democrats in the House of Representatives have finally reached an agreement on a health care plan that will extend coverage to tens of millions who lack coverage.

Speaker of the house Nancy Pelosi says the new measure "covers 96 percent of all Americans, and it puts affordable coverage in reach for millions of uninsured and underinsured families, lowering health care costs for all of us."

The new bill will also evidently impose new restrictions on private insurers and create a government-run insurance option for cost-conscious consumers.  Democrats did not immediately release a detailed estimate of the legislation's cost, but the full House is expected to vote on the bill next week.

Barack Obama also seems set to put his stamp of approval on the new health care bill.

GaySocialites.com endorses Jon Corzine for Governor in New Jersey

POLITICAL ENDORSEMENT

If you live anywhere near New Jersey, you know that there is a heated race for Governor going on in the Garden State.  The airwaves are flooded with ads and even President Obama has been to Jersey to stump for the incumbent Jon Corzine.

You might think it seems like an easy win for Corzine, the Democrat; but Republican Chris Christie is giving him a run for his money.

However, for the LGBT community, the choice should be clear.  Jon Corzine is a pioneer for gay rights, and the governor has promised to sign gay marriage into law in New Jersey within the next year.

On November 3rd, go to the polls and vote for Jon Corzine for governor; because a vote for Corzine is a vote for equality.

GaySocialites.com endorses Dawn Zimmer for Hoboken mayor

POLITICAL ENDORSEMENT

On November 3rd residents in Hoboken, New Jersey will go back to the polls to once again select a Mayor. This will be the third time this year.

The first two trips to the voting booths resulted in the election of Peter Cammarano after he narrowly defeated Dawn Zimmer in a run-off election.

Over the summer, newly-elected Mayor Cammarano was arrested as a part of a sting to take down corrupt religious leaders and politicians.  After he was released from the clink and resigned from office, the Hoboken City Council President was primed to take over the Mayor's office.  Ironically, Zimmer held that post and was sworn in as acting Mayor of Hoboken.

In Tuesday's special election, Zimmer is hoping to hold onto the Mayor's office.  We hope she does too.

Zimmer has offered a fresh, grassroots approach to governing Hoboken's highly populated one square mile.  She has reinstated a sense of trust in the mayor's office and hit the ground running with only a few months in office.

Last Spring, Zimmer's campaign told GaySocialites.com exclusively that she supports legislation to legalize gay marriage in New Jersey.

GaySocialites.com endorses Dawn Zimmer for her unwavering leadership, dedication to the LGBT community and strength in tough times. We encourage Hoboken residents to keep Zimmer as their mayor on Tuesday.

GaySocialites.com endorses NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg for re-election

POLITICAL ENDORSEMENT

One week from today, on November 3rd, New Yorkers will go to the polls to decide between Incumbent Mike Bloomberg and his Democratic challenger Bill Thompson.  GaySocialites.com is proud to put our support behind Republican incumbent Mike Bloomberg.

When Democratic Governor David Paterson announced legislation that would legalize gay marriage in New York, Mayor Bloomberg was right by his side.  Mike has always been a friend to the gays, and he has always pushed for equality for our community.

Additionally, Bloomberg has worked hard to improve the middle class, fight off a recession for New Yorkers and has done a lot for small businesses and freelancers working in our city.

Even though the mayor doesn't sugar coat anything and isn't the most media savvy, he has maintained control of the city and remained confident even in times of uncertainty.  Bloomberg's dedication shows in the fact that he only accepts a one dollar salary from the City annually.

On November 3rd, GaySocialites.com encourages you to make the right choice and re-elect Michael Bloomberg as Mayor. Bill Thompson is the wrong man for the job, whether he's a Democrat or not!

Looks like Levi Johnston will go full monty for Playgirl spread

Sarah Palin's would-be son-in-law is getting ready to pose nude for Playgirl.  Rumor has it Levi Johnston will make upward of $25,000, and he'll likely show his penis. Who knew it could be so lucrative to knock up the Governor's daughter?!

Levi's sidekick, Tank Jones, confirmed to Gawker that the Playgirl contract has been signed and that the shoot will take place in the next couple of weeks in New York.

Jones added that Levi is "fearless" and he'll "do what he wants to do" and that he's "90% sure there will be nudity...I'm talking the front. Letting the whole thing hang out."

I can't wait!  I think Levi Johnston is totally redneck-chic. I'd do him. I don't think I'd let him knock me up, but I'd definitely be down for full frontal - especially in person!

Johnston is, of course, the baby daddy to Bristol - Sarah Palin's daughter.

Here's the Obama family photo, but where's Bo?

obama_family_photo.jpg

Here it is!  The first official Obama family photo as first family of the United States.  The classic photo was shot by celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz.

The portrait was released by the White House on Friday, and the first thing I noticed was that the family dog was left out.  Where the hell is Bo?!

Bo's arrival as first family dog has sadly been one of the most talked about campaign promises on the Obama campaign, so you'd naturally think Bo would be included.

Regardless, the Obamas are a pretty bunch.

Fred Phelps and his hate mongers are coming to northern New Jersey

LGBT LOCAL NEWS

The crazies are coming to northern New Jersey.  Fred Phelps and his looney followers from Westboro Baptist Church are traveling all the way from the mid-west to protest in Hoboken, Seacaus and Jersey City.

Phelps and his followers believe that "God hates gays", they thank the Lord for 9/11 and they love to spread hate.

They're coming to Jersey to show their disapproval for 44 political and religious leaders arrested in July.

I think we should just ignore them, but if you want to counter the Phelps clan here's their schedule [via Hoboken411]:

Tuesday, October 27th from 4:45 to 5:15 pm they'll protest at Hoboken City Hall before moving on to the United Synagogue of Hoboken to spread more hate from 7 to 7:30 pm. Newly elected Mayor Peter Cammarano was replaced by City Council President Dawn Zimmer as a part of those raids.

Wednesday, October 28th they'll protest outside the Meadowlands Expo Center in Secaucus at 10:15 a.m. because Secaucus mayor Dennis Elwell was among those arrested.

Later that day, Phelps and his freaks will protest at Dickinson High School in Jersey City.  They'll swing by there just before 3pm.

Obama says leave the medical weed smokers and their dealers alone!

POLITICS

The Obama administration is set to release a report that basically tells the FBI to leave the folks on medical marijuana alone and to stop harassing people who are legally distributing weed for medical purposes if state allows it.

The memo evidently says that chasing legit weed smokers and their dealers is a waste of time.

This means that legit marijuana businesses running as a not-for-profit organizations should be left alone.  Others, like some of Los Angeles' candy shops, may still be subject to federal raids.

Obama responds to complaints that he's "done nothing" [video]

POLITICS

Barack Obama answered critics today in New Orleans who said the President hasn't done much since he's been in office.

"Now, just in case any of you were wondering, I never thought any of this was going to be easy," he said. "You know, I listen to sometimes these reporters on the news (who say) 'Well, why haven't you solved world hunger yet?'"

As the crowd laughed, he said: "Why hasn't everybody done it? It's been nine months. Why? I never said it was going to be easy. What did I say during the campaign? I said change is hard. And big change is harder."

Obama has even seen criticism from the folks over at "Saturday Night Live".

"When you look at my record, it's very clear what I've done so far, and that is: Nothing. Nada. Almost one year, and nothing to show for it," said Fred Arminsen who plays Obama on "SNL".

Meghan McCain causes twitter controversy with lounging photo

meghan_mccain_twitter_picture.jpgOur girl, and friend of the gays - Meghan McCain - is getting some flack over a photo she posted on Twitter.

Holding a copy of Andy Warhol’s biography and wearing a tank top that showed off her cleavage, Meghan wrote a tweet about her "spontaneous night in." Then it got retweeted and many people tagged McCain as a slut.

“So I took a fun picture not thinking anything about what I was wearing but apparently anything other than a pantsuit I am a slut,” Megan tweeted with, “what once was fun now just seems like a vessel for harassment” and “when I am alone in my apartment, I wear tank tops and sweat pants, I had no idea this makes me a “slut”, I can’t even tell you how hurt I am.”

McCain also later apologized tweeting, “I do want to apologize to anyone that was offended by my twitpic, I have clearly made a huge mistake and am sorry 2 those that are offended.”

By the end of the night, Meghan tweeted that this picture controversy may lead to her deleting her Twitter account.

Election Wrap

Things are looking good for the Democrats, anti-Republicans and gay candidates today.

Democrats have won a commanding lead in the United States House of Representatives.  Gay candidates won 67 offices nationwide, and Arizona failed to pass a constitutional ban on same sex marriage.

All that, and Donald Rumsfeld has resigned as Secretary of Defense.

I love democracy!
