FIT FACTOR

In lieu of Ken Hunt's weekly "Fit Factor" column here at GaySocialites.com, this week he has asked us to direct you over to his Facebook Group "Ken Hunt Fitness & Steel Gym" for some FREE fitness tips all week long.

Every day this week, Ken will release another fitness tip via his Facebook group.  Hunt says most of the tips will be aimed at those who wouldn't typically find themselves working out in group fitness or at the gym.

DID YOU KNOW?

After Thursday night's episode of Grey's Anatomy, everyone is asking what the difference between GRID and AIDS is.

In a flash back episode, the doctors were treating a patient with GRID (Gay Related Immune Deficiency).  GRID later became known as AIDS (acquired immune deficiency syndrome).

In July 1982, a team realized that GRID may be offensive and started using the term AIDS instead.

Now you know.

How's your New Year's resolution going?  We're nearly through the first two months of 2010, and this is the point where most people either start slacking or have already given up on their hopes and dreams to stay fit in the New Year.

To try and help you stay motivated, fitness expert Ken Hunt is offering free fitness tips on his Facebook Group titled "Ken Hunt Fitness & Steel Gym". 

Hunt says the group was created to motivate members and guests of his fitness center, Steel Gym in New York.  Ken, however, says everyone is encouraged to join.

"We want to help everyone stay on track with their fitness goals," Hunt says. "We understand that everyone can't make it to the gym every day, so we hope to offer a variety of tips that anyone can benefit from."

Ken Hunt's free fitness tips start Monday, February 22nd on his Facebook Group.

Does this sound like you?

You are the first one at the gym in the morning. You continue to train despite a nagging injury. Your idea of free time is heading back to the gym for an hour or so of cardio. Missing a workout is not an option. Are you obsessed with exercise? Ask yourself these questions:

• Do I feel that I absolutely cannot miss my workout? If I do miss a workout, do I feel extremely guilty and uneasy?
• Do I feel that I have to exercise even if I notice that instead of helping my body, I am damaging it?
• Am I preoccupied with my body's appearance, weight and muscle mass?
• Do I spend a lot of time looking at myself, scrutinizing myself and measuring myself?
• Am I getting more injuries?
• Do I hear family and friends expressing concern about my exercise regimen or appearance, yet I still don't stop exercising?
• Do I feel like I can't stop exercising?

If you answered “Yes” to 3 or more questions, then exercising might be interfering in your life. And you may be at risk for developing an exercise disorder.

All of the GaySocialites would like to wish a Happy Birthday to fitness guru Ken Hunt.  Ken is a great friend of ours around here.  He's not only our trainer and voluntary security detail, but he's also a great friend!

Ken is also an internationally renowned fitness expert, the owner of Steel Gym and a syndicated fitness columnist.

Tonight Hunt, a GaySocialite himself, will be celebrating his birthday at the new Thursday night party, Apple Jack at La Pomme in New York City.  Hosts Matt Tratner, King Ralphy, Dina Marie Delicious and Ricardo Studmuffin will be helping Ken knock back some booze and celebrate another year.

I'm told tonight's Apple Jack is guest list only, but if you come to the door dropping King Ralphy, Dina Marie or even Ken's name - then you might be able to talk your way in!

CHARLES ON...

For those of you who haven't heard, I was recently hospitalized to have surgery on my hand.  It wasn't too serious of a deal, but it wasn't exactly a fun experience either.

That's why I'm writing this special weekend edition of Charles On.

After a visit to my regular doctor ended up with orders to go to the hospital, I landed a nearly week-long visit at Bellvue in New York City. 

A fine hospital that dealt with my hostility, and as it turns out - Bellevue offers discounted health care to New Yorkers who aren't insured.
