School Angels' "Somebody's Baby Video"

My good friend Andrew Stopps in Australia sent this video to me.

Andrew is best known as the founder of GenerationQ (formerly queerplanet), but recently Andrew created the Street Angels to fight homophobia on the streets and now the School Angels to help stop gay bullying in schools.

He put together this awesome video, and I had to share it with you!

Google goes black for a greener tomorrow

googlegoesblack.jpg

If you've been over to Google.com, then you're probably wondering why Google has gone black. Well, for one of the world's most popular search engines, black is the new green.

Google's normal white background is black this weekend with a message through the center of the page that reads: "We've turned the lights out. Now it's your turn." In addition to the subtle message written in white on an all black background, there is also a link to the Earth hour website.

The the folks behind Google describe the black out as "a gesture to raise awareness of a worldwide energy conservation effort called 'Earth hour.'"

"On Saturday, March 29, 2008, Earth Hour invites people around the world to turn off their lights for one hour – from 8:00pm to 9:00pm in their local time zone. On this day, cities around the world, including Copenhagen, Chicago, Melbourne, Dubai, and Tel Aviv, will hold events to acknowledge their commitment to energy conservation."

The website adds "we strongly support the Earth Hour campaign, and have darkened our homepage today to help spread awareness of what we hope will be a highly successful global event."

Earth Hour was created by WWF in Sydney, Australia in 2007, and in one year has grown from an event in one city to a global movement according to the website.

Farm Aid concert headed to NYC

Willie Nelson announced Monday that he will be bringing his Farm Aid concert to the big apple this year!

"Farm Aid 2007: A Homegrown Festival" will hit Randall's Island on September 9th.  Farm Aid board members Willie Nelson, Dave Matthews, John Mellencamp and Neil Young will perform on Randall's Island in the East River between Manhattan, the Bronx and Queens.

"Farm Aid is coming to New York because your enthusiasm for family farm food is keeping family farmers on the land," Nelson told reporters.

Since its start in 1985, Farm Aid has raised over $30 million to support local organizations working to strengthen family farms.  The concert has been held in cities such as Lincoln, Nebraska, and Seattle but never before in New York.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg joined Mellencamp and Nelson in making the announcement. Mayor Mike also unveiled a plan to increase the city's reliance on soybean and corn-based biofuel, which he said will help farmers.

JUSTICE WITHIN US ALL

Justice
In love with the truth
Enjoy being a Dreamer
Never trust a screamer
Who is sincere?
In life who shall we fear?
It is not done
For you must carry on
Believe in yourself
Never anyone else
we can trust
Atleast we think we can
We can hurt
With the  blink of an eye
We tear ourselves in two
You get hurt once
And you want to die
Ever cry yourself to sleep?
But she is there to wipe your tears?
Ever toughen your skin?
And thought you could win?
That battle within us all
Or the friend that will catch you
When you fall
Is there justice in this world?
Have you ever had a kiss…
That knocked you off your feet?
Or love a woman so much
You felt love- sick
By her touch?
And when she held you
You never felt blue
Life was never bad
You cherished each moment
You had
In life we must remember
Each sore moment
Makes us tender
Our heart is fragile
And breaks easily
And that love comes and goes
We try to hide our pain
So it does not show
For love is not a bruise
Even though we lose
More then we gain
Live life not in shame
Be proud

TAKE PRIDE IN YOUR CLOTHING! "LIPSTICK AND WILDFLOWERS"

We have spent our whole lives trying to be comfortable in our own skin. Trying on different looks and outlooks. That shirt is boyish, that shirt is girlie. What about a median? What about a birth of the two? The company “Lipstick and Wildflowers” is just that!

The extremely talented women behind the magic are Tracey M. Robinson (Creative Director and President) and Tonja F. Jordan, Esq. (Business Development and Legal Affairs). Both decided to create a line where gay women can be themselves.  How many times have you been to the mall with your girl, and been dragged to the men’s department? Or has your girlfriend begged you to go to the ladies section at Macy’s? The Lipstick represents the femme type of lesbian and the  Wildflowers, the more tomboyish/androgynous. The goal of the creators? To have a world where the Butch and the Femme can shop side by side. Something I think we can all agree on.

Lesbians have a lot in common yes, but we are all incredibly different. We have a unique voice that must be heard. Lipstick and Wildflowers would like to be that voice. To give us our own tone of voice. We have pride in ourselves, now it is time to take pride in our clothing. Shop Lipstick and Wildflowers!

When you are not treated fairly

Have you ever thought, life would be easier? What  if I was a man, What if had a different appearance?  Days go by and people lose jobs. Some are to scared to complain, some are happy to be out. The truth is, even your dream job is not worth the pain of discrimination.

It is monday at the water cooler, and a Mr. Smith is being ignored for the color of his skin. A Mrs. Doe for her religious backround. Before that sip of coffee is taken, you are being asked about your sexual orientation. Which is none of their buisness. Since when does filing and computer work relate to who you share your bed with at night?  Never assume. In the year 2007, we don't always appear to be what we truly are inside.  Most companies now are equal right employers. Which is more then most people have seen in their lives. In this case, it is not just about sexuality. I have seen a lot of the work world. Companies try to better themselves by hiring people who are different.

A company that is very diverse is bound to get more buisness. Since diversity makes up a big portion of our world. Whether those differences are based on color, religion, origin, or sexuality. If you are ever working in a company that discriminates, make sure you report them. This is a very resourceful website: http://www.eeoc.gov/types/sex.html, it stands for the equal employment oppurtunities commission. They focus on sexual based discrimination in addition to others. If your fear is losing your job, it is simply not worth it. Your well being and human rights are. The ones discriminating are aware of differences, they just choose not to understand them. Big difference.

Make a Valentine for a good cause!

This month we are asking the GaySocialites to make a Valentine's Day card for a good cause!  From now until February 13th, we'll be collecting home made Valentine's Day cards for AIDS patients and gay runaway teens.

Please make the card generic so we can give it to a boy or a girl!  You can send them to the address below or hold on to them, because next weekend you'll be able to get a discount at a club if you bring one to the door (more details to come!)
