The answer is clearly, yes.  General Conway should have to dress like a clown with a big nose and bright red hair as he goes off to his daily Marine duties.  (I'm talking big shoes and all here.)  Let's see what happens if Mr. Conway has to act like someone else every day for the rest of his life.  Imagine if he had to hide who he really is just to do his job.  Then, I bet he would answer his own question.  Yes we would enhance our war fighting capabilities by allowing homosexuals to openly serve in the military.

OUCH

Okay, so I google myself.  We all do it... don't we?

On occasion, I'll find articles quoting me that I never knew existed.  Sometimes they'll pick up on things I say about various philanthropic projects, other times they'll grab tid bits from here at GaySocialites.com.

However, recently, I stumbled across a review of Rush on Yelp that contained my name.  It wasn't so pleasant.

Xander A. of Astoria, New York writes, "RUSH had gone through a rough patch about a year ago when they fired that annoying Charles Winters. OMG that guy is not entertaining or funny or cute! But they brought him back unfortunately."

Well I'm just gonna have to be more entertaining, funnier and cuter in the future!

CHARLES ON...

No matter how much a homo tries to convince me otherwise, Valentine's Day is a straight person's "holiday".  While I had a delightful Valentine's Day with my guy of interest, I realized that the gays haven't exactly realized how to work themselves into Valentine's Day.

Sure all of the gay bars throw red and white clad V-Day themed parties, but that isn't the same.  I'm talking about expensive dinners, dancing, candy and roses.  Where do we fit into all that?

This Valentine's Day, my date did exactly what I would have hoped.  For the most part, we took low-key options like dinner and games at Dave & Busters followed by an interesting all dessert bar that's a bit off the beaten path.  

As two men on a date, I didn't feel like we were even noticed by the straight people (much to my surprise!)  Instead, it was the other gay couples that felt the need to single us out with a blatant point (probably accompanied by a statement like "look more gays") or an awkward wave (like we should recognize them from our gay directories or something).  I found it to be a bit annoying and quite embarrassing.

Meanwhile, the breeders were everywhere!  The straights were blocking sidewalks (because they have to hold hands everywhere they go), making out sporatically (because that can't wait until they're back home) and oggling into each other's eyes as they scarf down chocolate mousse and orange slices (that was probably in part because the music inside the restaurant was way too loud for casual conversation).

So should, we, as gay men, seize the opportunity to make out in public and get lost in each other's eyes once every year or should we say no to Valentine's Day the same way that the straights have to marriage equality.

Despite the fact Valentine's Day is represented by a fairy in a diaper complete with a bow and arrow  (and normally a lisp), I still don't feel comfortable doing those lovey dovey things for everyone to see on February 14th.  I don't wanna hold you homos back though, if you wanna be as obnoxious as the straight people that's fine with me.  Knock yourself out and a hit a few others while you're at it!

DOUCHE BAG ALERT

We've got a breaking douche bag alert out of New York.  State Senator and convicted girlfriend abuser, Hiram Monserrate, refuses to take "get out" for an answer.

On Tuesday, the New York State Senate voted to boot Monserrate out of office.  By an overwhelming vote of 53 to 8, Hiram's colleagues told him to hit the road misdemeanor assault against his girlfriend brought shame on the chamber.

We have known that Monserrate was a douche bag for a while.  Not only because he beat his girlfriend, but he was the ring leader in the New State Senate stalemate that could have ruined the chances of marriage equality in New York.

I say good-bye to this douche bag.  If they can get him to go.  Hiram wants to stay so badly that he is appealing.  Who would want to show up to work every day knowing that your co-workers hate you in 53 to 8 ration?  Not me!

I'M JUST SAYING...

Pepsi has evidently opted out of Super Bowl advertising this year.  Instead, they're launching an interactive social networking type campaign that will interact with customers for months.

This has some advertising agencies and the networks who bid on the big game shaking in their shoes.  Could social networking be the end of Super Bowl advertising?

Social Networking Optimization is the new trend.  If companies, like Pepsi, can spend big bucks while building relationships with customers; who should they spend so much money making us laugh during boring football games?

CHARLES ON

 

Its no real secret that I suffer from severe anxiety.  Some times, I even get so stressed and anxious that I have seizures.  Part of controlling it for me has always been good medication, but I more importantly want to learn to control it on my own.

Even though I studied Life Coaching, and I am an expert at most of the goal setting modules; I can't seem to get my own anxiety under control.

During a recent meeting with one of my many therapists, she said I needed to think of something physical and fun to do in order to keep my mind in the right place. 

Normally, I workout with my trainer, Ken Hunt, at Steel Gym but since having hand surgery and undergoing a week long hospitalization; I can't hit the gym yet.

My therapist looked at me with that "shrink smirk" and said, "aren't you a nightlife personality?"  When I confirmed that I was, she replied with a simple, "just dance." When did doctors start quoting Lady Gaga?  I guess this one speaks fluent gay, because she was sooo right!

Dancing the stress away might sound cheesy, but it actually works!  This Wednesday I put it to the test as King Ralphy and I previewed our new "Cupcake" party at Red Velvet on the Lower East Side.  Dancing my anxiety out worked so well that I couldn't stop.  I even hit up a few places in the East Village afterwards including a cameo at Urge to see Logan Hardcore.  The hottest part of that party are the caliente muscle boys dancing on the bar!  I even let them do a little dancing with me (for a dollar, of course!)

Next time you're feeling a little stressed, just dance.  Close your office door.  Do it in the streets.  Come dance with me on Tuesdays at Vlada, Wednesdays at Red Velvet or Saturdays at Rush (all located in NYC).

On your mark, get set, GO! Rupaul's Drag Race Season 2 premiered tonight on Logo. As predicted this season the show had a bigger budget and with that came production. The first celebrity guest judge was gay loving Kathy Griffin. The show seems to still have the likeable factor that made the first season such a success. Twelve beautiful girls representing the "best" of American drag.

This week the contestants had to straddle a cannon while being blown away by a wind machine. Some did great as others flipped their wig; literally. Morgan McMichaels came out on top with a beautiful photograph. Later the girls made their first garment of the season out of curtains.

Ultimately good friends Shangela Laquifa Wadley and Sahara Davenport (representing NY) had to lipsync for their life. Sahara was told "Shante, you stay" as Shangela sashayed away.

The three contestants that stood out to me were Raven, Morgan McMichaels and Sonique. Coincidentally those were the three that did the best in the challenges and are looking to be the top contenders. The Hot Tranny Mess of the Week Award goes to Mystique Summers Madison. Not only was her assemble a train wreck but her split wasn't eye pleasing either. (You gotta work harder for the big girls!)

STUPID BITCHES CLUB

GaySocialites.com is proud to announce that we've inducted Moscow mayor Yuri Luzhkov into the Stupid Bitches Club (SBC) for calling a gay parade "satanic".

"A gay parade... cannot be called anything but a Satanic act," Yury Luzhkov told an education conference, quoted by Interfax news agency. "We haven't permitted such a parade and we won't permit it in the future."

Parade organizers have never been granted permission to hold gay pride parades by the city authorities, leading to violent clashes with police and anti-gay protestors.

Luzhkov, being the stupid bitch that he is, called for gay marchers to be punished. "It's high time that we stop propagating nonsense discussions about human rights, and bring to bear on them the full force and justice of the law," he said.

What kind of world do we live in? This must stop!

POLITICAL EDITORIAL

The legendary Ted Kennedy rolled in his grave over night as a Republican took his seat in the United States Senate.  I don't know how tthe people of Massachusetts supported a man like Ted Kennedy for as long as they did could vote for someone whose first move could be to destroy the main thing that Kennedy wanted to accomplish in his career - universal health care.

While I do believe that Kennedy himself is to blame a bit, and I'll explain that later.  However, the main reason the Democrats lost Kennedy's seat is because Barack Obama is our President.  I'm not ready to start screaming that "I told you so" just yet, but be warned that its coming.

Anyone who stopped by GaySocialites.com during the 2008 campaign know that I wholeheartedly supported Hillary Clinton and am still certain that she would have made a better President.  

All we heard from Obama during the primary was that the Clintons were too polarizing.  Much to my surprise the Kennedy's jumped on the Obama bandwagon.  Looking back, that probably wasn't the best decision they could have made.

At this point, so many people feel polarized by President Obama that his own words could be what make him a one term President.  How ironic?  The iconic speaker may just blurb out his own demise.

Ted Kennedy worked nearly his entire political career to try and create a universal health care system in America, and now the person who will soon hold his seat, Scott Brown,  could ruin the late humanitarian's dream,

Thank you Mr. President.  We appreciate all you're doing to keep your promise to repeal "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" too.

POLITICAL ENDORSEMENT

The late Senator Edward Kennedy will roll in his grave if the Democrats lose his Senate seat to the Republicans.

If Martha Coakley doesn't beat Scott Brown, then the earth might rattle.  GaySocialites.com is proud to endorse Coakley, not just because she will help the Democrats maintain their 60 seat majority.  

The late Ted Kennedy fought for universal health care for the majority of his political career, and it would be an insult to all of his work if someone doesn't carry that torch til then end.

This weekend, Barack Obama is even headed to Massachusetts to campaign Coakley.  I encourage you to do the same.

EDITORIAL

This video brought tears to my eyes.  Produced by the New York Pride Agenda, this video sends a clear message to the 38 state Senators who voted against marriage equality in New York:  "We will not go away."

The video also thanks the 24 state Senators who stood up for the rights of their gay constituents by voting in favor of civil rights and equality.

The message is clear.  We must continue to thank and support those who are for us, and at the same time we must deal with those who are against us.  If they aren't open-minded enough to see that this is the civil rights movement of our era, then those bigots need to be voted out of office.  In just a few years, proponents who are trying to suppress us now will hopefully look back at themselves in shame.

"The fight isn't over," said Speaker of the New York City Council Christine Quinn who is the first openly gay person to hold that post..

You can guarantee that GaySocialites.com will dedicate a lot of time and money to the upcoming state-wide elections in New York state. Maybe we will see some of our own, like Chris Quinn or Mike Bloomberg, move to the state level; and we must keep our advocates like Governor David Paterson in office.

It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year, and no I’m not talking about Aids Day.

It’s Christmas! It’s that special time of the year where we gather with our families, drink eggnog, give gifts, and celebrate the birth of our Lord.

One of my personal favorite parts of this holiday is going to neighboring Jew villages and singing Christmas Carols in German, though nothing beats giving gifts to the less fortunate during this lovely time; like the blacks.

SHOT OF THE DAY

Our shot of the day comes from the West Coast.  It's San Francisco's annual Speedo Santa Run. 

Who says you can't sell a little sex to make some money for AIDS research while drawing a whole lot of awareness as well.  Oh, did I forget to mention that the Speedo Santa Run is a benefit for the San Francisco AIDS Foundation?

Makes it a little more fun to watch, doesn't it?  Who doesn't want to watch a bunch of sexy do-gooders in nothing but their speedos.  I'd chip in to that!

CHARLES ON...

This week, the gay awards shows started wrapping up 2009 with the Glammy's and the Out Music Awards.

After every Glammy presentation, the nominees and their friends walk away bitter after discovering that the least suspected are normally the ones who get the awards. "Let's start our own awards," shouted one multi-colored queen as another said "let's just buy nicer trophies and carry them around."  Both are great ideas, but why not just offer an awards presentation that everyone sees as fair? With facts to back it and a well-chosen committee to govern it?

That's why I've decided to re-craft the GaySocialites Awards and re-name them "The New York Gay Nightlife Awards."  The GNA's will be handed out during gay pride and will recognize those who go above and beyond in New York's gay nightlife scene.

We'll continue to vote the same way that GaySocialites.com has given away their awards for the past five years and the same way HX held their voting process as well.  A fair online ballot will be given to anyone who requests one simply by logging in to an online voting machine.

A steering committee will consist of a panel of nightlife professionals from different genres throughout the gay nightlife scene.

I'm not taking anything away from either of this week's awards ceremonies. They both had their moments.  Peppermint stole the show at the Glammy's with her fire blowing opening number, and Acid Betty pulled her own little Kanye at the Out Music Awards by stealing the stage during a bland number.

I also have to tip my hat to those recognized this week.  Each and every one of them definitely deserved it, and I can't say I discredit any of them at anything they do. 

I assume the Glammy's will continue to recognize those who bring the pizazz to the industry as the Out Music Awards shines the spotlight on the artists.  The New York Gay Nightlife Awards will recognize those who create the basis for it all and contribute the most to making each and every New York night unforgettable.

This week has been another ferocious step toward what Sean Hannity, of Fox News fame, calls “Conservative Victory 2010”. The sanctity of marriage has been saved once again, this time in the great state of New York. This isn’t the first state to be saved from the evil grasps of homosexuality, but its one of the best examples of true Americans. New York is the center of the universe, and the world realizes that the faggots don’t run this universe. Children we must rejoice in this victory for it is the reality check that these homos need.

FAVORITE THINGS

Every day until Christmas we're introducing you to our Favorite Things of 2009.  Each year, we tell you about little things we've discovered on our journeys that we know you'll enjoy too.

One of my most favorite things of 2009 was the addition of Sweet Tea to the menu at McDonald's.  If you follow me on Twitter, then you know that I'm @McDonald's at least two or three times each day for a sweet tea stop.

As a southern living in the big city, there are few things that really remind me of home.  Sure, I can wonder into the shopping mall or grab some Memphis-style BBQ in Time Square; but nothing says East Tennessee like a good glass of sweet tea.

If you've never tried the fresh brewed sweet tea at McDonald's, you don't know what you're missing. It's only $1 for the large size, and its very refreshing with a nice kick of caffeine to help you get through your day.

McDonald's sweet tea is definitely one of my favorite things!

GAY MARRIAGE

Sadly, in a sense, it wasn't even close.  New York's State Senate voted down a measure on Wednesday  that would have legalized gay marriage in the Empire State.

After hours of emotional testimony, the bill was defeated by a vote of 24 to 38.

Senator Tom Duane of Manhattan made this emotional plea before the vote: "This legislation would merely provide me and tens of thousands of other New Yorkers with equal rights in New York State. It would make me equal in every way to everyone else in this chamber." 

I guess Sen. Duane's peers in the State Senate don't see him or us as equal.  It's a sad day in New York State.

GaySocialites.com is working to obtain the roll call to see which Senators are against us and which ones are for us.  We'll publish that as soon as we receive it.

CHARLES ON

The holiday season has a different meaning for everyone, but over all giving and receiving would probably be the central themes.

My friends and family are wonderful, so I can honestly say that I get more gifts each year than I could possibly deserve.  I also think I do a pretty decent job at finding the perfect gifts for those on my list as well.

This year, however, I plan to focus more on giving back to the community and those who need it most.

There are tons of ways to get involved during the holiday season. You could volunteer at a food bank, buy a gift for an underprivileged child or possibly attend a benefit or charity event. The options are nearly endless.

This year, I'm proud to be co-chairing the host committee for the Trevor Project Date Auction and Cocktail Party sponsored by Steel Gym, Senses Salon and GaySocialites.com.  If you're in New York, this is a very simple way to give back. Come bid on the hot bachelors or just soak up the free vodka and entertainment at Vlada Bar in Manhattan on Friday, December 3rd at 8pm.  Why not get laid and help someone in need at the same time?

This is just one way that you can give back this holiday season. No matter what it is, please take a moment and help someone out this year.  Whether you're donating your time, money or just a smile; every little bit counts!

I TOLD YA SO...

Adam Lambert's performance at Sunday night's American Music Awards sealed the deal... this guy is confused!

Lambert is all over the place in life, and lets just say this performance emulated life!  Not only did the American Idol runner-up over-sing his first live national television since losing Fox's singing competition to cutie Kris Allen, he also confused the hell out of everyone.

From making out with girls [or trannies or how ever that keyboardist identifies him or herself] to rubbing a male back-up dancers' face in his crotch, Lambert seemed a bit confused with not only who he is but what his style represents.  Some say its the label, but Lambert is taking credit for it all himself. 

That could explain it.  Adam started out as a drag performer in Los Angeles.  Last night, he served up drag.  Is America ready for boy drag? Is anyone ready for boy drag?

I wanted to like Adam Lambert so badly (simply because he's gay), but I'm less than impressed and worried that his career might be much more short lived than I ever expected.

CHARLES ON...

In today's web driven world, it is simple for everyone to start feeling a little bit famous every now and again.  As more people become web savvy, everyone seems to be popping up on the web.  With a few clicks of a mouse, you can be gathering friends and producing your webisodes. After a few people show interest in your work, your head starts to swell.  The problem is that you're not as famous as you think you are.

While having hundreds of "followers" on Twitter should boost anyone's self confidence at least a little, but writing clever statements in 140 characters or less isn't going to put you in the history books.  Keep in mind, you're not as famous as you think you are.

Social networking sites likes YouTube, Facebook and MySpace can make anyone feel like a superstar.  Some of their users even claim to be celebrities simply due to their online network.  These folks often spend a lot of time recording new videos, tagging photos, blogging and posting bulletins for their web friends.  The problem is that these dilusionoids really seem to think they're raising the bar.  If you fit into this category, I hate to break the news to you - you're not a celebrity.  Not even a little bit.  Oh, and you're not as famous as you think you are.

Even though you can get followers on Twitter, fans of Facebook and stalkers on MySpace, it certainly isn't fame with easy fortune.  In all reality, very few people are going to rise to fame through social networking.  So maybe you should just get a real job, because you're not as famous as you think you are!

If you see me out and about, help keep me in check too.  Don't be afraid to lean over and whisper, "you're not as famous as you think you are!"

SHOT OF THE DAY

Our shot of the day comes from an episode of "The View" that aired last week.  On said episode, the chatter box ladies welcome mega church preacher, Joel Osteen, and dragged his thoughts on homosexuality out.

I was a bit disappointed to hear Osteen say that homosexuality is a sin and not "God's best", but I am happy to hear that he loves us anyway.  So does God (in case you missed my sermon on Sunday)!

Osteen compared homosexuality to "mistakes" that he has made in the past.  While it makes you feel a little unaccepted and second class, Osteen always reiterates that he isn't "the judge."  

What do you think about Joel Osteen and his views on homosexuality?  Should gay Christians avoid the powerhouse preacher and anyone else who thinks our sexual orientation is a sin.

I look at it like this, God wouldn't give us anything we can't handle.  God probably made me gay, because he knew I wouldn't be good at much else!  I'm capalizing on it here people!

TELEVISION REVIEW

On Saturday night, late night TV got added an openly gay woman to the mix as "The Wanda Sykes Show" debuted on Fox.  

Unlike the new late night leader David Letterman or any of his followers (Conan O'Brien, Jimmy Fallon, Craig Ferguson and now George Lopez), Sykes has to go up against "SNL."  For that vary resaon, Wanda's show is all over the place.

It's part skit comedy, part news satire.  However, unlike the others, Wanda Sykes has a drag queen:

I think Sykes is hilarious, and you know I mostly support the gays.  I'm hoping "The Wanda Sykes" show can work through their kinks so she can stick around late night for a while!

"The Wanda Sykes Show" airs Saturday nights at 11:00pm.

POLITICAL ENDORSEMENT

The race for New York's City Council in the First District hits close to home for me, literally.  That's because I live in the Financial District, and that is also the World Headquarters for GaySocialites.com.  Regular readers know that, but what many of you may not know is that I considered running for this seat myself.

Living in a rent stabilized building that stands the threat of instability or forced evictions to make way for new condos, having someone who can represent my personal interests is clearly important.  In the primary, the incumbent Alan Gerson, was defeated by Margaret Chin.  Chin, also a resident of the Financial District turned heads doing what many of us thought we couldn't do... beat the incumbent.  

Clearly a strong personality and a grass roots leader, Chin is what we need to represent the First District of the greatest city in the world.  The person who represents from Chinatown to Battery Park and from South Ferry to Battery Bark City also represents the land on which City Hall sets.  We need a dedicated leader with a solid agenda.

That's why GaySocialites.com would like to endorse Margaret Chin for Cty Council in our district.  We hope the 'neighborhood gays' will rally behind us and swing by the poll to vote for Chin.  She's what we need, and I'm happy to put my support behind her.

CHARLES ON...

In case you missed it, the 11th Annual Glammy nominations are out, and I'm nominated for a second year running.  [thank you, thank you... but hold your applause]. The ballots are going out even as we speak, I'd basically like to beg for your vote.

I got my first nomination last year. I lost.  Not only did I lose, but I lost to the Bunny... Lady Bunny.  

Now, it isn't the least bit humiliating to lose to one of the world's most famous DJing drag queens.  The problem is that I'm neither a drag queen nor a DJ.  I'm a journalist with degree in Broadcasting.  I just choose to report on something that other serious journalists may not, nightlife.

That's why this year, I'm taking my Glammy nomination seriously and basically begging for your vote.  At GaySocialites.com, we have recently expanded to become an online magazine. We're growing our format to cover more news, entertainment, politics and theatre.  My goal is to give you, the gays, a place where you can get more than gay news.  We have a phenomenal team in place, and I share this nomination with them.

With what appears to be the fall of gay print media, blogging and online news outlets are taking the lead.  Whether it is true or not, I like to think of myself as a pioneer for gay blogging.  With a Glammy win for best blogger/ writer, I hope this will give the steam to lead this industry into the future.

Despite the fact that Adam Lambert went totally fagged out for his debut album cover, it still looks like "the man" is trying to straighten him out a bit.

Just before the photos of Lambert sucking on a girls tit was released, it seems that Adam dumped his boyfriend.  That's right, Drake LaBry, is no longer the "American Idol" runner-ups' lover boy.

Coincidence? I think not!  The record label is probably trying to make openly gay Adam appeal to many audiences.  Maybe he should have thought about that before he went on "American Idol" in full make-up or before he worked as a drag queen in WeHo.  I'm just saying...

Hello my name is Shealita Babay, and I am an American. I remember a time in my life when saying “I am an American.” meant something. I remember when this great country used to be the hot shit on the block that no one fucked with. We used to have reliable cars and have goods to export out. Now the Ching Chong China Man rules the land of auto-industry and the only goods America exports is Obesity and Autism. I know I am not alone when I go to the local market looking to purchase some wares and become enraged to see that the said item I wanted is made in Portugal or Mexico city. What the hell happened to this great country?!   

We have taken God out of America is what happened to this country. Our core values and beliefs are all different now. Once we took the 10 commandments off the walls in a courtroom that’s when hell broke loose throughout the land. Women were raped, babies were ripped out of uteruses an stomped on the ground by Lesbians, villages were burned to the ground, Evolution was the new way of thinking and the ACLU slaughtered the Christians by the masses. We as a Christian nation need to rise up and over throw these fag laws, and build this country back up to its glory days! The nerve of this country to tell me that I must respect a homosexual and his “right” to pound another man in the anus is ridiculous! John Wayne didn’t take it on the chin like this, and neither will I anymore.

The nerve of this country telling me what I have to believe in and tolerate. You have no right to tell me how to think, so Liberal Fag American you can suck my taint. I am sick and tired of hearing about some Jew crying over their local school celebrating Christmas. If you Jews didn’t kill Jesus in the first place we wouldn’t be having this discussion, so why don’t you just go back to Aushwitz and make some lampshades!  As for you Abortion loving Lesbians, I hope ur coat hanger hits an artery and you bleed to death. I am pro-life we must protect all life in the uterus and also it aint abortion if my daughter trips on my foot down the stairs after she comes home thinkin she can tell me she’s marrying a black man and going to birth me a colored baby can u imagine the scourge I will have to endure at church, all them eyes on me while I walk to my pew with them just thinking “Oh there goes the grandmother with the black grandchild” Can you believe the nerve of that girl coming into my house and trying to tell me whats what?! Everyone is probably wondering what happened here at GaySocialties.com over the past week. Why were we off-line? Simply put, we made a mistake.

We gave one of our advertisers too much freedom, and they did something illegal. We apologize to everyone involved, and have removed that advertiser from the site for good.

At the same time, we're also preparing to launch or new website, the GaySocialties.com Online Magazine. You're going to love the new features, and you're going to love the new content. It's definitely worth the wait.

For now, we'll be using these temporary diggs until our new place is ready.
