The State of Gay Nightlife: Response from Party Boy Scott Williams

Well, this address was a bit of a downer, huh! For someone who is so concerned about the “horrible” state nightlife is in you would think they would write something that would attract people to it, but too each his own I guess. Nightlife nowadays is fun! Come on guys, it is what you make of it, and to be honest, all these people who have been around the block and just sit around and complain about how it “used to be” and how it “is no more” are just being such a drag. Those are the people who need to not go out. You really are putting quite a damper on everyones parade.
I am young, 21. I have, however, been heavily involved in the gay nightlife scene for a few years now. I have seen parties come and go, people lose their “fame”, promoters become irrelevant. Now, this keeps the spice up, don’t you think? I mean, who wants to go to the same party every week for years or even months? I sure don’t. I am not trying to put down the early 2000’s, I am sure they were great. I honestly really, really wish I could have been there to see it, and probably would agree if I could but I can’t. I just can’t. When I first started going out I was floored with all the spectacles I would see every night from performances, clubs, club kids, drag queens, etc. Admittedly, I have become a bit desensitized from it all, but there are new kids coming out of the closet or turning 21 everyday who come out for the first time and feel that same way! Nightlife nowadays is fun, and I have fun every time I go out.
Oh, and one more thing: in response to the whole online hookup thing bringing out less people….THANK GOD! Those people need to stay at home anyway! I don’t want to see creeps when I’m out trying to have fun with my friends. They sound like a bore anyway and give gays a bad reputation.
Bottom line, nightlife today is great. Every week it seems like there is something new to do or someone new to watch at least. The stories keep on coming and we keep on making them. I know that when I am old and gray, I’m going to look back and say, “damn, I had A FUCKING BLAST in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012…”
