Music Monday: DJ Steve Sidewalk sounds off on Madonna’s newest single
1If anyone knows me, they know I am a long time Madonna fan. She’s the queen. However, I LOVE Madonna but I don’t LUV her. This song disasterously leaked back in late fall. Madonna and company claimed it was just a demo, but really it was just the version without MIA or Nicki–who, by the way, sound poorly added in.
When this track leaked, both dance floors and the social media sites instantly were not having it. I was hoping a revamped version and the Madonna marketing team would be able to save it come February, but sadly no. If you ask me, she should have picked a new song all together.
When Madonna released her single “4 Minutes” in 2007, a lot of die hard fans were not satisfied. However, she at LEAST picked the “hot producer” of the moment, Timbaland. Martin Solveig produced this track and although having success with his own track “Hello”, he is not the hit making machine Timbo was. Madonna should have enlisted RedOne (producer of Lady Gaga and JLo) or Dr. Luke (producer of Britney Spears and Kesha). Sure it would have been an easy way to get a modern hit… but it would be a HIT!
Maybe the Super Bowl will save this. Or the music video. Both were hot. But really Madonna? You are going to criticize Lady Gaga, who is admittedly one of your biggest fans, for ripping you off? You call “Born This Way” REDUCTIVE when compared to “Express Yourself”?
Well Madge, I hate to say this, but both Tony Basil (of “Hey Mickey” fame) and Avril Lavigne (“Girlfriend”) can call your new cheerleading anthem REDUCTIVE.
I mean really. That is completely the pot calling the kettle black. Look what happened to Xtina when she criticized Gaga about not being sure if she was a man or not? Bionic flopped. I am sure MDNA will sell well to Madonnas massive fan base, but something tells me that if the other tracks are like “Give Me All Your Luvin’” this may be a commercial flop. Get ready for the blogs and twitter to start trending #flopdonna… #justsaying
Bottom line. Even as hypocritical as she may be, I love Madonna. And she’s made a few mistakes (i.e. “American Life”) but even I grew to like that song after awhile. So maybe there’s hope. And maybe MDNA will have some good surprises after all. Crossing fingers.
