Haters: Westboro Baptist Church to picket Whitney Houston’s funeral

The Westboro Baptist Church, the infamous group of around 40 members based in Topeka, Kansas, are at it again, now threatening to picket the funeral of Whitney Houston. Margie Phelps, daughter of WBC pastor Fred Phelps, aroused suspicions today as to the groups plans via twitter: ”Yay! 2 pickets in NJ-Whitney Houston funeral & [legislature]“. The group has previously picketed the funerals of Michael Jackson, Steve Jobs, Matthew Shepard and countless soldiers who died overseas.
Being that Houston was both heterosexual and Christian–seemingly two positives to the WBC–the announcement has left people mystified as to why they would protest. But the church has been attacking the late singer all week, with pastor Fred Phelps tweeting ”Stand by for Westboro parody, ‘God Will Always Hate You, Whitney.’” He also wrote in a later tweet, ”F— call her ‘gay icon.’ Yeah, WBC is picketing that funeral.” Margie also tweeted ”No R.I.P. Whitney Houston. You don’t live your life serving self & sin, stealing God’s glory, & get peace #warnliving #picketfuneral #obeyGod”.
One can assume the picketing is tied in the recent passage of a gay marriage bill in the New Jersey Legislature. Houston’s funeral service will be held on Saturday at New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey.
