Sunday afternoon a set of disturbing pictures on Facebook called our attention. In an album called “4 STICHES THANKS BITCHES!!” Damian Furtch wanted to show what two energumens had caused him early that morning. He sums up the story in a caption saying: “Well, I thought I was safe in the city I loved but apparently wearing florescent colored clothing and pink shoe laces really bother some fucking assholes to blind side me and hit me.”
Furch, 26, was on his way home from working his Saturday night shift at The Pink Teacup Restaurant in the West Village, wearing a “flamboyant” (his word) outfit he uses for work, when he decided to stop at a McDonald’s. It was Sunday, around 4:30 in the morning when he noticed two men giving him “looks” that made him uncomfortable. Feeling so, and tired as he was, he decided to leave and avoid any sort of “situation”. Once outside and across the street, and while on the phone with a friend, the two men from McDonald’s approached him and asked “if he had a problem”. What followed were punches on his face joined by the equally hurtful yells of “You fucking faggot”.
Luckily Damian got away and got to a hospital were the police was contacted. He received four stitches while his nose will have to be broken and re-set.
The attackers seemed of Latin ethnicity. One of them sports a large tattoo of a Gothic cross under his left eye (aprox. 2 inches).
Nicholas Andrew Parnell from dereklovesshopping.com reports that Damian has received enormous support from people, saying that: “even though he is ‘overwhelmed with sadness‘ he is feeling ‘equally appreciative‘ for the love and encouragement. He said ‘282 friend requests and 235 emails are sitting in my facebook and its not like this is the earthquake in Japan, but this was something so close to home for most of us and I believe everyone is legitimately feeling empathy.‘
Damian advises ‘be flamboyant, but also protect yourself and don’t feel like you cant go out, don’t be scared, but be aware.’ ‘You need to report everything… don’t feel intimidated.‘”
We wish Damian the best and hope that justice prevails and those responsible for his hurt pay for their actions.
