Some unlikely but possible contenders to replace Senator Hillary Clinton

GAYSOCIALITES.COM IN DEPTH

hillaryreplacements.jpgA few months ago, Caroline Kennedy could have topped a list of unlikely but potential candidates to replace Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton when she moves on to become secretary of State next month. Now, however, Kennedy seems to be the front-runner.

Let's take a look at some unlikely but potentially perfect candidates to replace Hillary in the Senate.

Bill Clinton: Putting a former President back in public office might seem unlikely in today's day and age, but several former Presidents have continued to work in the public sector after leaving office. Bill Clinton would definitely meet the qualifications having been the Governor of Arkansas and 42nd President. While it seems highly unlikely at this point, Bill Clinton would make a great Senator for the state of New York.

Shelly Silver: Sheldon Silver is my representative in the State Assembly in New York. Shelly isn't exactly great for our district, but I do believe that he is good for the state. As the speaker of the Assembly, Silver worked to repeal the commuter tax and to block the building of the West Side Stadium - as well as tackling other state-wide issues. Since he's so great on the state level, Assembly Speaker Silver would make a great Senator for New York. He's probably not even on the Governor's radar either.

Tom Souzzi: Nassau County Executive Thomas Souzzi made an admirable run against Eliot Spitzer in the Democratic primary for Governor, and he was even once mentioned as the top contender to replace Hillary right after Obama announced she'll become secretary of State. Souzzi seems to be a great choice to replace Clinton, but it Kennedy may have knocked his name out of contention.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg: He's probably a very unlikely choice, but Mayor Michael Bloomberg would probably be a great Senator. As Mayor of New York City, Bloomberg has run the biggest metropolis in the country like a big business. It worked. Mayor Mike has also developed a honest, yeh blunt dialog with the residents of New York and the media. Bloomberg considered himself a Democrat for years before joining the Republican party to win the Mayor's office. He's now classified as an Independent. It would take a strong commitment to caucus with the Democrats and hell freezing over for Bloomberg to get Paterson's appointment.

David Paterson: It wouldn't be completely out of the question for David Paterson to appoint himself to replace Senator Clinton. There was actually mass speculation that Paterson would be tapped by then Governor Eliot Spitzer to replace Hillary if she became President. My how things change. Still, if so inclined, Governor Paterson should also consider himself for the job. I don't necessarily endorse such a move, because I think he is a great Governor. It might be a long shot, but you never know - Paterson could legally appoint himself.
