What the hell is the MTA thinking? Price increases and service decreases?

As a New Yorker, I can honestly say I don't depend too heavily on the MTA; but I like to know that it is there if needed. I also like to know that I can afford to ride it if needed.
On Thursday, the MTA announced that subway and bus prices will skyrocket over the next year. They also plan to cut service.
If any other provider of any other service told us that the price was going up, but the service was going down... we'd probably boycott them. If my cell service said it was going to cost more, but I couldn't use my phone as much - I would stop using them. Same thing with electricity and well everything.
Maybe we should boycott the MTA, for at least a day. Someone else organize the effort, and I'll walk for a day.
