A man who was swinging two swords outside the Scientology Celebrity Center in Hollywood was shot and killed by a security guard.

The guards say they were just defending themselves, and authorities say that the sword carrying man can be seen approaching the guards on a video surveillance system.

"The evidence itself, it's very, very clear," Los Angeles Deputy Police Chief Terry S. Hara said. "The security officers were defending their safety."

Hara said the sword yielding man was "close enough to hurt them," and cops have confirmed he was previously involved in the Scientology Celebrity Center.

"There was a previous relationship, but it is unclear to what degree," Detective Wendi Berndt said.

An investigation is ongoing.
