Barack Obama will become the 44th President of the United States of America in January.
CNN is projecting that Obama will reach the 270 electoral votes needed to win the White House. This means Obama has effectively defeated Republican John McCain.
This will be the first time in United States history that an African American will hold the highest office in the land.
Obama and his running mate, Joe Biden, now become the President and Vice-President-elect of the United States of America. They will spend the next few months transition from the failed George Bush administration.
John McCain has yet to concede. He and his running mate, Sarah Palin, are together in Arizona.
