Just when some bloggers started pointing the finger at a homo hook-up gone wrong, the NYPD arrested a suspect in the murder of openly gay 19-year-old Pace University student Kevin Pravia.

Jeromie Cancel, 22, has confessed that he smothered Pravia, watched the horror film "Saw" in his apartment then robbed him.

As cops escorted him out of the precinct, Cancel smiled and said he killed Pravia "because I wanted to." "You got a problem with that?" he asked reporters.

Cancel said that Pravia fell asleep, so he punched the student in the face, stuffed a bag in his mouth, wrapped the television cord around his neck and suffocated him, according to police. He said he took a laptop and cell phone that he sold on the street and iPod, and he claims he can't remember where it is.

"He's mentally imbalanced," Cancel's dad, Jesus Soto, told The Post. "He seemed off-balance. He didn't seem right."

The murderer is evidently estranged from his father who hasn't seen him months, but years before that. Cancel showed up at his dad's house today to confess to murder.

"He said, 'I just killed someone,' " Soto said. "He had no remorse. He had a big smile."

"I called the cops, and when they pulled up . . . he just turned to the cops and told them he just killed someone."

"You don't take someone's life like that," his father added. "He deserves what he gets."

Cancel, who is evidently homeless, told cops that he met Pravia in Union Square at about 6 o'clock Saturday morning.

He also told investigators that Pravia approached him to buy drugs. Cops say they doubt that is true. No drugs were found in the apartment.

The Daily News is reporting that Pravia, who was gay, was known as a hard partier who dated a lot of men and would sometimes use drugs in social settings.
