Morgan Freeman and his wife have evidently been separated since late last year and are getting a divorce.

Does that mean that the passenger in Freeman's nearly fatal car accident, Demaris Meyer, was his new lady? Not necessarily, say witnesses.

"He said that she had offered him a ride home; that they were friends and she had offered him a ride home and she didn't really know the way and so he was going to drive the vehicle," said Bill Rogers, a retired police officer who was the first person to arrive at the accident scene.

Freeman's friend and business partner, Bill Luckett, told the local Memphis newspaper that Demaris and Morgan are just friends.
