Mark Spitz cheering for Michael Phelps to break his record

phelpstiesspitz.jpg

You can totally just say that Michael Phelps has the golden touch after winning the 100-meter butterfly in a photo finish just a hundreth of a second ahead of Serbia's Milorad Cavic.

Phelps is now tied with Mark Spitz for the most gold medals won during a single Olympics. Michael and Mark have each earned 7.

Spitz set the record back in 1972 Munich Games. He says he is cheering for Phelps from home.

"I was almost giddy with excitement," Spitz said. "It's so befitting of Michael to do it like that. I won a race by a hundredth of a second like he did and I'm not giving my medal back."

Michael Phelps will go for his 8th gold in Beijing tonight in a relay the United States has never lost in the Olympics.
