2008 Emmy nominees announced, cable programming makes its mark

emmynomsannounced.jpgThe 2008 Emmy Nominations were announced this morning, and the list actually makes history!

AMC’s “Mad Men” and FX’s legal thriller “Damages” made became the first basic cable programs to gain best-series nods on Thursday.

“30 Rock,” last year’s best comedy Emmy winner, was the top nominee among sitcoms with 17 bids. “Mad Men” was the leading drama series contender with 16 nominations.

Two of our favorite gays also got nods. Neil Patrick Harris received the “outstanding actor” nomination for his role on "How I Met Your Mother," while Cynthia Nixon racked up a nod for her guest role on "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit."
