The Advocate talks about gays in journalism

advocatethomasroberts.jpgThe openly gay Insider Thomas Roberts is on the cover of The Advocate this week, and inside he talks about being 'out' in broadcast journalism and his sudden departure from CNN.

The Advocate reporter Sean Kennedy went on a hike deep into the woods with sexy Thomas Roberts for a little ... interview? Um ok...

Thomas on "getting fired" from CNN:“It’s funny that people think I got fired from CNN. I left CNN on my accord: I resigned from my contract because of personal reasons.” During his six years at the channel, he says, “I never dealt with anything but respect and kindness. There’s a great misconception.”

The Advocate also talked to others about being gay in journalism.

ABC News senior vice president Jeffrey Schneider on 'coming out' in the newsroom:“I can state unequivocally that we would be a thousand percent supportive of any employee who wanted to come out publicly."

News talent agent Mendes J. Napoli on the options for gay reporters:
“You can be a morning anchor, a weekend anchor, an afternoon anchor, a reporter -- they love gay reporters now because they’re so animated, they’re not stiff."

You can read the whole article in the June edition of The Advocate.
