Did Christin Quinn do anything wrong in the 'slush fund' scandal?

New York City's most powerful gay politician, Christine Quinn, has come under fire for a decades old tradition of putting money into slush funds so the City Council can spend the money as the please.

Council Speaker Quinn spent the weekend burning up the phones trying to get some people in her corner.

Basically, the council has been creating phantom accounts to allocate money as they see fit without proper approval.

On Friday, Quinn announced that she would reform the system by limiting their discretionary funds as well. Other council members aren't too happy.

"The Council wasn't briefed about the investigation, and now the speaker is proposing changes," Councilman Erik Martin Dila said. "We acknowledge we need change, but don't want to cede the power of the City Council."

Though it is unclear whether any evidence was found against her, Quinn has hired high power attorney Lee S. Richards III.

This type of fraud carries a maximum $1 million fine and 30 years in prison.

Quinn is set to potentially become the first openly gay Mayor of New York City after Michael Bloomberg's term ends.
