The judge who sentenced Paris Hilton to jail is a hero, at church anyway. Evidently Judge Michael T. Sauer got a standing ovation as he entered the St. Brendan church in Los Angeles on Sunday morning according to TMZ.
I guess his fellow parishoners believe that Judge Sauer is cleaning up the mean streets of LA by locking up a stupid, bimbo socialite.
Meanwhile, TMZ also caught up with some celebs who were out partying over the weekend to see what they thought of Paris' jail time. Some seemed sympathetic while others (like Kelly Osbourne) didn't seem to really give a damn.
Are the days of Paris Hilton's fame and misfortune over?

Poor Paris! This judge STOLE my last name and then used it to imprison the most interesting celebrity of today! Very bad, he's hardly a hero. Just because you may not like it someone else may "One man's rubbish is another man's treasure."

As the deacon at St. Brendan Church, I was immediately suspicious when I was contacted by media to confirm the story about Judge Sauer receiving a standing ovation when he walked into the church for a few reasons. First of all, it doesn't sound like the sort of thing that would happen at St. Brendan. Secondly, while I was not at the Saturday Vigil Mass, I had heard no one in the parish refer to it.
Well what do you know, today's Los Angeles Times has a story where Judge Sauer himself refutes this story:
"The urban legends have already begun to crop up; celebrity gossip website TMZ.com, citing "sources inside," reported that Sauer received a standing ovation from his fellow congregants Sunday at St. Brendan Catholic Church.
"The church story is completely false," he said."
