The New York nightlife scene is shifting to weekdays, and it looks like the gay college crowd is following!  This Tuesday kicks off something entirely new, a free 18 and over weekday party.

Tuesday nights suddenly got Tragic as Steve Sidewalk and Charles Winters make their East Village debut at Boysroom.  This crazy combo is known for their 18 and over mega parties all over the New York metro area, but now the duo says they are moving into unchartered territory - weeknights!

How do you get college kids to rub to elbows with the creme de la creme of the weekend night elite?  According to Steve Sidewalk you should offer variety, cheap drinks, little or no cover and a taste of the VIP feel from typical weeknight parties. 

"Our Tragic party at Boysroom will be the perfect mix of a laid back environment filled with a VIP crowd that just wants to chill and have fun," says DJ Sidewalk.  "I promise this party is going to be different than anything else you have ever seen!  We are playing Nintendo, drinking games and twister while listening to everything from Ace of Base to Justin Timberlake and anything that falls in-between."

It doesn't look like the NYPD has spirit when it comes to leaving some New York hot spots thumpin'.  Spirit nightclub was raided and closed by cops on Friday night for the second time this year.  The club plays host to a slew of hot parties from hip hop and house nights to John Blair and Alan Picus' Sunday night Chelsea boy mecca.  

The police order to shut the doors came as a result of the latest initiative that began shortly after  18-year-old Jennifer Moore was raped and murdered on July 25 following a night of drinking at Guest House, on the same block as Spirit.

Since then, cops have buckled down across the city and said they have caught three underage drinkers inside Spirit, witnessed others smoking pot, as well as various drug sales.

Only about 50 people were partying inside Spirit when cops raided it at 10:30 on Friday night.  The rest of the anxious party goers were left waiting outside.

A lawyer for the club says they aren't sure when it might reopen, but he says the shut-down doesn't seem to be permanent. "I am extremely confident that once all the facts are presented to the judge, we will be immediately reopened," said lawyer Albert Santoro.

Meanwhile, promoters shuffle to find a temporary home for their weekly parties.  Alan Picus and John Blair seem to be getting the best of both worlds.  Picus tells GaySocialites.com that the promoters were somewhat worried about not being to accomodate the large crowd expected for tonight's pool party; so they'll be hosting the mega event just a few blocks down at a much bigger venue, the Roxy.

Community service has never gotten this much attention!  Gay Icon and 80's music legend, Boy George, returned to New York today to complete his community sentence after a bizarre run in with the police earlier this year.

The paparazzi was out in full force, but Boy George didn't seem to like all the attention too much.  Through out the day, he screaming out "You think you're better than me?" "Go home. Let me do my community service. This is supposed to be making me humble. Let me do this. I just want to do my job."  The crowd of photographers and reporters got so thick, that the NY sanitation department had to let him clean a closed in parking lot for his own safety.

The Culture Club front man was sentenced to community service after he called the police to report that someone broke into his apartment and stole his drugs.  When the police arrived they found plenty of drugs around, and that's how Boy George got in this "stinky" situation.

Monday on Showtime, Mary Louise Parker and the Weeds crew showed us that once again this fall we're all going to be addicted to 'Weeds.' 

Parker returns to her Golden Globe-wining role as Nancy Botwin, a young struggling widow mother who finds herself forced to sell marijuana as a means of supporting her family. 

Last season Nancy struggled pushing weed to the locals a bag at a time, but during this second season she is transforming a small suburban operation into a professional growth house where she'll grow her own products.

The plot line here gets you attached even if you don't necessarily agree with what Nancy is doing.  It doesn't hurt that the supporting cast is amazingly spectacular featuring Elizabeth Perkins who also received and Emmy nod as Nancy's friend and neighbor Celia who last season had an affair on her husband after discovering she had cancer and that he too hand affair himself; former SNL superstar Kevin Nealon who plays Nancy's accountant and number one customer, Doug; Justin Kirk as Andy, Nancy's free-spirited and reckless brother-in-law; and now Martin Donavon who joined the cast last year as Nancy's love affair and left us with the cliff-hanging season finale as they revealed he was also a DEA officer.

Proof that the second season will take us just as high as the first, Nancy wakes up to discover that she had just slept with a badge carrying drug cop. At home her teenage son is more rebellious than most.  She also realized that her dream to grow her product wasn't going to happen because she didn't have the cash, and she just lost her top partner over sleeping with the DEA officer. Last but not least, she accidentally talked her best friend into running against her #1 customer for City Council. 

After some good advice from her dealer, Nancy went home to regain control of the house.  While sitting down with a mandatory family dinner, the guy who runs her cover bakery called to say it was burning down.  Nancy's dream had come true to thanks to her employee that burned it to the ground for the insurance money.  It looks like things may come together for Nancy afterall.

One of my favorite parts about the show is its theme song, "Little Boxes" by Malvina Reynolds.  This season they'll still use that same song, but they will introduce a new cover version of it each week from artists ranging from Elvis Costello to Death Cab for Cutie.

Weeds is somewhat of Showtime's replacement for their groundbreaking and edgy Queer As Folk that ended after a successful 5 season run.

They're known for the insane Rock-n-Roll style and their outrageous frontwoman Tiff Randol, but after this Thursday Valeze may be known for making waves through Manhattan.

To celebrate the release of their first EP, Valeze will set cruise with over 200 of their fans for a rockin' night on the water cruising around the island of Manhattan.  This Thursday, August 17th Valeze will host Circus, the Party on a Moon Line party boat.  They've joined forces with Steve Sidewalk to keep you dancing all night long.  They're promising circus acts, go-go boys, drag performances and endless suprises.

Advanced tickets are available on this site under the special events section for only $20.  Tickets can also be purchased on Thursday for $25.  The boat boards at 8:30 sharp at Skyport Marina (23rd and FDR).  Everyone who attends gets a copy of the EP and a Gay Socialites membership card good for freebies and discounts around NYC. 

Afterwards, Tiff Randol and Steve Sidewalk will reconvene with the Gay Socialites at Splash for a live performance.  This is expected to be the party of the summer, and its definitely worth attending!

This year's election may not seem to important here in New York.  There are no presidential candidates on the ballot, and Hillary Clinton seems to be on her way back to the Senate.  While both of those may be true, this is actually an important election year.  The New York Attorney General's seat is being vacated by Elliott Spitzer as he runs for governor.  It's our choice to make a decision in race that may not usually be that important in the LGBT community.

This year, we have a chance to make a big push for gay rights here in the state of New York.  This year there is an openly gay candidate running for Attorney General.  His name is Sean Patrick Maloney, and we're not putting our support behind him today because he's gay.  We're endorsing Sean Maloney because he's the right choice for New Yorkers both gay and straight.

It isn't often you get to go into the booth and pull the lever for another openly gay American.  Its heroic and courageous to run to a race for a state-wide office as an openly gay individual.  That's probably why Sean Maloney is the only gay candidate in the nation who is running for a state-wide office. 

I had the opportunity and honor to meet Sean Maloney during New York's Gay Pride this year.  I had the honor of not only helping plan his parade presence, but to also get to know him as a person. During pride week, Sean got out there and showed his pride by attending events during the day and hitting the club scene at night.  Sean was proud to celebrate the fact that he was gay, and he also sent out a strong message in doing so.  Sean is not one of those candidates who will go to Albany and forget what happens in New York City.  He has told me personally that he's not afraid to stand-up for the gay community when we're being singled out.

Sean has a committed partner and three children.  He's a family man with a strong set of values.  Sean is a brilliant representation of the LGBT community, and in my eyes he's a true pioneer.

His plan for New York is well-rounded.  Its based on equality for everyone, because we're New Yorkers not because of the color of our skin or our sexual orientation.

I encourage you to go to the polls on September 12th, and if there is only one lever that you pull make sure it marks an X by Sean Patrick Maloney, OUR candidate for Attorney General.
